School <strong>of</strong> Law Among Best in Ohio,<br />

<strong>an</strong>d Best Value in Nation<br />

<strong>The</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Law r<strong>an</strong>ked 1st <strong>an</strong>d 4th in the state b<strong>as</strong>ed on<br />

results <strong>of</strong> the Ohio Bar Examinations <strong>for</strong> February 2011, <strong>an</strong>d July<br />

2011, respectively, <strong>as</strong> rele<strong>as</strong>ed by the Ohio Supreme Court. In<br />

February, Akron Law had a 100-percent p<strong>as</strong>s rate among firsttime<br />

takers <strong>of</strong> the exam, r<strong>an</strong>king it ahead <strong>of</strong> Ohio’s other eight<br />

law schools. Akron also r<strong>an</strong>ked first among all takers <strong>of</strong> the exam,<br />

with a p<strong>as</strong>s rate <strong>of</strong> 81 percent. Akron Law also r<strong>an</strong>ked first among<br />

the nine Ohio law schools with the highest first-time taker p<strong>as</strong>s<br />

rate <strong>for</strong> the July 2010 Ohio bar exam with a 94 percent p<strong>as</strong>s rate.<br />

UA’s School <strong>of</strong> Law w<strong>as</strong> also named one <strong>of</strong> the top 60 Best<br />

Value law schools by <strong>The</strong> National Jurist magazine in 2011. <strong>The</strong><br />

magazine’s r<strong>an</strong>king takes into account in-state tuition, debt <strong>an</strong>d<br />

the percent <strong>of</strong> graduates employed nine months after graduation –<br />

in addition to bar p<strong>as</strong>sage. UA, along with other public law schools,<br />

dominated the list. <strong>The</strong> magazine noted that due to the fact<br />

that private school tuition h<strong>as</strong> incre<strong>as</strong>ed so much in the p<strong>as</strong>t few<br />

years, it w<strong>as</strong> difficult <strong>for</strong> those institutions to <strong>of</strong>fer a good value.<br />

Other UA Accolades:<br />

• <strong>The</strong> Princeton Review listed UA among the “Best in the Midwest”<br />

in its 2011 edition <strong>of</strong> Best Colleges: Region-by-Region.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Business Administration’s graduate program h<strong>as</strong><br />

been recognized in <strong>The</strong> Princeton Review’s Best Business Schools<br />

<strong>for</strong> the p<strong>as</strong>t six years.<br />

• UA is among the top 20 percent <strong>of</strong> U.S. universities conferring<br />

doctorate degrees in chemistry.<br />

UA Named F<strong>as</strong>test-growing Public Research<br />

<strong>University</strong> in Ohio, Midwest<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Akron had the f<strong>as</strong>test-growing enrollment<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>an</strong>y public research university in Ohio <strong>an</strong>d the Midwest from<br />

2004-09, according to <strong>The</strong> Chronicle <strong>of</strong> Higher Education<br />

2010-2011 Alm<strong>an</strong>ac. In the fall <strong>of</strong> 2010 UA welcomed its largest<br />

freshm<strong>an</strong> cl<strong>as</strong>s in its 140-year history – 4,796 – a 5.6 percent<br />

incre<strong>as</strong>e from fall 2009. Overall enrollment is up <strong>as</strong> well – 4.8<br />

percent, when 29,251 students arrived <strong>for</strong> the fall semester.<br />

<strong>Engine</strong>ering College’s <strong>Growth</strong> Among Nation’s Highest<br />

UA’s College <strong>of</strong> <strong>Engine</strong>ering is the f<strong>as</strong>test-growing engineering<br />

program in Ohio <strong>an</strong>d fourth in the nation,according to a review<br />

<strong>of</strong> the nation’s largest 150 schools <strong>of</strong> engineering using data<br />

collected by the Americ<strong>an</strong> Society <strong>for</strong> <strong>Engine</strong>ering Education.<br />

Undergraduate enrollment h<strong>as</strong> incre<strong>as</strong>ed 76 percent over the<br />

l<strong>as</strong>t seven years, to more th<strong>an</strong> 2,400 students in the fall semester<br />

<strong>of</strong> 2011. In 2010, the college received in excess <strong>of</strong> $17 million in<br />

research funding, having more th<strong>an</strong> quadrupled its research<br />

activity over the l<strong>as</strong>t four years.<br />
