Ramp Up is seeing a surge in requests for our help
but we just need an influx of funding to keep up. Right
now, there are 200 people on the waiting list, and more
calls coming in daily. Why support Ramp Up? Just look at
the numbers: It costs UCP between $5,000 and $35,000 to
make a home handicap-accessible. By contrast, it costs
Illinois taxpayers $147,000 to provide an individual with
institutionalized care for just one year. And that’s not
taking into account the human cost of taking away
independence or breaking up families.
