The Adult Day Program is staying afloat, in the face of state funding cuts and delayed payments, something we weren’t always sure we’d be able to say. For people like Ella and Andrew, that’s tremendous news. They met through the program, fell in love and married more than 30 years ago. Although cerebral palsy confines both to wheelchairs, with UCP’s help they manage to live on their own. So many people rely on UCP, one of the few organizations committed to helping adults with disabilities. If you ever need another reason to give to UCP, think of your support as an Andrew & Ella anniversary gift to Ella and Andrew.
Unemployment remains high as the economy struggles to recover — even higher for people with disabilities. But in UCP’s Employment and Training Program, people like Linda gain the skills to hold meaningful, paying jobs. Linda works at Cicero Town Hall, performing clerical work in the Streets and Sanitation Department. She takes home a paycheck and basks in the pride her family feels for her accomplishment. Linda
