2008 UC SAN DIEGO MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Tristan
Burton
Tristan Burton begins his second season
as an assistant coach with the UC San
Diego men’s volleyball team.
Previously Burton was an assistant on the
Morgan State women’s volleyball team where he assisted in the
planning and supervision of team practices and individual tutoring
sessions. He also served as the MEAC representative for the
AVCA Assistant Coaches Committee.
From 2005-07, Burton was the head coach of the U.S. Naval
Academy men’s club volleyball team. He guided the team to a

Stanford ‘03
t-9th place finish at NIRSA Division I Sport Club Championship.
He has also coached at nine other clubs and high schools.
Burton earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D.
minor in Mathematics from Stanford in 2003. He also served as
an Assistant Professor in the U.S. Naval Academy Mechanical
Engineering Department.
Paul
Warren
Assistant Coach • 3rd season
UC San Diego ‘92
Paul Warren is entering his third season
as an assistant coach for UCSD and his
primary duties include charting the Triton
offense.
Warren brings a wealth of coaching experience to the UCSD as he
most recently served as the head coach at America High School
and is a volunteer assistant at the University of San Diego. While
at AHS he gradually built the program into a competitive entity as
the team made its first league playoff berth in eight years this past
season. He has also served as the club volleyball coach for the City
Jon
Jon Newman-Gonchar begins his second
season as an assistant at UCSD. He will
assist in all aspects of individual and team
training. Specifically on-court coaching,
practice planning, video set up and analysis,
and management of the competitive cauldron. Newman-Gonchar
will serve as recruiting coordinator, is responsible for managing
correspondence, evaluations, and visits with prospective
student-athletes. He will operate the DataVolley video-statistical
program, serve as the Camp Coordinator and is responsible for
all administrative duties involving the overnight UCSD Women’s
Volleyball Summer Camp.

Beach Bay Club from 2003-05.
He was a member of the Tritons men’s volleyball team at UC San
Diego in 1991-92. During his collegiate career he played the swing
hitter and opposite positions, while training as a setter.
Warren earned his bachelors from UC San Diego in 1992 in Political
Science. He resides in Oceanside, Calif. with his wife Amber
and their five children.

Northern Arizona ‘05
Newman-Gonchar
Newman-Gonchar spent the 2006-07 year as an assistant at the
University of Louisiana Lafayette. He helped plan practicies and
trained the Cajuns’ setters. He also served as the recruiting coordinator,
maintaining and keeping up with over 100 prospective
student athletes from British Columbia to California
A native of Claremont, Calif., he played prep volleyball at Claremont
High School before attending Northern Arizona. While at
NAU he was a member of the men’s club volleyball program.
Newman-Gonchar received his bachelor’s degree in health sciences
from Northern Arizona in December 2005.
