Tristan<br />
Burton<br />
Tristan Burton begins his second season<br />
as an assistant coach with the <strong>UC</strong> <strong>San</strong><br />
<strong>Diego</strong> men’s volleyball team.<br />
Previously Burton was an assistant on the<br />
Morgan State women’s volleyball team where he assisted in the<br />
planning and supervision of team practices and individual tutoring<br />
sessions. He also served as the MEAC representative for the<br />
AVCA Assistant Coaches Committee.<br />
From 2005-07, Burton was the head coach of the U.S. Naval<br />
Academy men’s club volleyball team. He guided the team to a<br />

Stanford ‘03<br />
t-9th place finish at NIRSA Division I Sport Club Championship.<br />
He has also coached at nine other clubs and high schools.<br />
Burton earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D.<br />
minor in Mathematics from Stanford in 2003. He also served as<br />
an Assistant Professor in the U.S. Naval Academy Mechanical<br />
Engineering Department.<br />
Paul<br />
Warren<br />
Assistant Coach • 3rd season<br />
<strong>UC</strong> <strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> ‘92<br />
Paul Warren is entering his third season<br />
as an assistant coach for <strong>UC</strong>SD and his<br />
primary duties include charting the Triton<br />
offense.<br />
Warren brings a wealth of coaching experience to the <strong>UC</strong>SD as he<br />
most recently served as the head coach at America High School<br />
and is a volunteer assistant at the University of <strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong>. While<br />
at AHS he gradually built the program into a competitive entity as<br />
the team made its first league playoff berth in eight years this past<br />
season. He has also served as the club volleyball coach for the City<br />
Jon<br />
Jon Newman-Gonchar begins his second<br />
season as an assistant at <strong>UC</strong>SD. He will<br />
assist in all aspects of individual and team<br />
training. Specifically on-court coaching,<br />
practice planning, video set up and analysis,<br />
and management of the competitive cauldron. Newman-Gonchar<br />
will serve as recruiting coordinator, is responsible for managing<br />
correspondence, evaluations, and visits with prospective<br />
student-athletes. He will operate the DataVolley video-statistical<br />
program, serve as the Camp Coordinator and is responsible for<br />
all administrative duties involving the overnight <strong>UC</strong>SD Women’s<br />
<strong>Volleyball</strong> Summer Camp.<br />

Beach Bay Club from 2003-05.<br />
He was a member of the Tritons men’s volleyball team at <strong>UC</strong> <strong>San</strong><br />
<strong>Diego</strong> in 1991-92. During his collegiate career he played the swing<br />
hitter and opposite positions, while training as a setter.<br />
Warren earned his bachelors from <strong>UC</strong> <strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> in 1992 in Political<br />
Science. He resides in Oceanside, Calif. with his wife Amber<br />
and their five children.<br />
Assistant Coach • 2nd season<br />
Northern Arizona ‘05<br />
Newman-Gonchar<br />
Newman-Gonchar spent the 2006-07 year as an assistant at the<br />
University of Louisiana Lafayette. He helped plan practicies and<br />
trained the Cajuns’ setters. He also served as the recruiting coordinator,<br />
maintaining and keeping up with over 100 prospective<br />
student athletes from British Columbia to California<br />
A native of Claremont, Calif., he played prep volleyball at Claremont<br />
High School before attending Northern Arizona. While at<br />
NAU he was a member of the men’s club volleyball program.<br />
Newman-Gonchar received his bachelor’s degree in health sciences<br />
from Northern Arizona in December 2005.
