MAAP (Minority Access and Achievement<br />

Program) <strong>of</strong>fers mentoring, study groups,<br />

and other forms <strong>of</strong> support to students<br />

from historically underrepresented ethnic<br />

groups in <strong>Hawaii</strong>, including <strong>Hawaii</strong>an, Filipino,<br />

Samoan and other Pacific Islanders,<br />

and Indo‐Chinese. Faculty may refer students<br />

to MAAP (Student Services Building,<br />

Room 202) or call 974‐7451 for more inform<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

SSSP (Student Support Services Program)<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers tutoring and other forms <strong>of</strong> support<br />

to eligible participants (i.e. students who<br />

are low income and/or first gener<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

college students or students with documented<br />

disabilities). Faculty may refer<br />

students to SSSP (Student Services Building,<br />

room 211) or call 974‐7616 for more<br />

inform<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Student Athlete Academic Services is<br />

loc<strong>at</strong>ed in the Athletics building computer<br />

lab and available to assist student<strong>at</strong>hletes.<br />

It provides access to study hall<br />

sessions for teams, acts as a liaison between<br />

the faculty/staff and student <strong>at</strong>hletes,<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers and arranges proctoring <strong>of</strong><br />

exams and quizzes when student‐<strong>at</strong>hletes<br />

are away on NCAA competition travel, and<br />

provides advising on general educ<strong>at</strong>ion/<br />

assistance on class registr<strong>at</strong>ion. Call 933‐<br />

9912 if you feel a student <strong>at</strong>hlete in your<br />

class needs additional support.<br />

Academic Affairs Support Services:<br />

The M<strong>at</strong>h Lab (College Hall 5) <strong>of</strong>fers drop‐in<br />

tutoring in m<strong>at</strong>h for m<strong>at</strong>h and m<strong>at</strong>hdependent<br />

courses.<br />

The Writing Center (LRC PC Lab, room 239)<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers drop‐in tutoring for writing in English<br />

classes and across the disciplines.<br />

In spring 2010, Kilohana will open its new<br />

space on the ground floor <strong>of</strong> the Mookini Library.<br />

In addition to providing much needed<br />

space for tutors and students to meet, the<br />

center will house reference m<strong>at</strong>erial and resources<br />

to help students with academic challenges<br />

such as effective time management,<br />

managing test anxiety, taking and using<br />

notes from lecture and textbook, and studying<br />

smarter. In fall 2010 we will launch a selfpaced<br />

developmental skills program th<strong>at</strong> will<br />

allow motiv<strong>at</strong>ed students to further prepare<br />

themselves for the academic rigor <strong>of</strong> university<br />

coursework.<br />
