Live to Play Programme
Ulster GAA embarked on a Road Safety education
programme (Live to Play) at the beginning of
2010 with the aim of raising awareness among
members and initiating behavioural change. The
GAA’s place in community, it’s structures, ability
to mobilise members places the Association in
a position to influence one of the most pertinent
issues facing communities.
The education element of Live to Play which takes place
at Club grounds is accompanied with a promotional
campaign which has caught the imagination of GAA
members, media and politicians alike. Materials include
posters featuring high profile GAA players, reflective
backpacks, air fresheners, posters and pitchside
signage, all alongside a fully functioning microsite.
An impact survey carried out on the programme in May
2011 highlighted the success of the campaign to date in
raising awareness, encouraging safer driving behaviours
and gaining support, particularly among the target
audience of 17-24 males.
