Ms. Munasinghe commented to the ET the achievements of Activity 4, its degree of<br />
completion and her assessment about the project implementation, the difficulties her activity<br />
found and the way those were solved. She also ela borated on ways and means to streamline<br />
implementation of projects like this one, the previous experience with mini-hydro of ITDG,<br />
the pros and cons of the activity design, etc.<br />

Ms. Thapa and Ms. Jorgensen updated the ET in <strong>term</strong>s of the Country Framework being<br />
discussed with the Government, its priority objectives and areas of action, and about the<br />
procedure for any follow-up action. The overall assessment about the evolution of the<br />
implementation process, the shortcomings faced and how the project structure responded to it,<br />
and the general scope and expectations for this <strong>Evaluation</strong> Mission and its wrap-up meeting<br />
were also discussed at large.<br />

Dr. Somaratna introduced briefly the NERD Center’s main functions, organizational structure<br />
and present facilities, which were equipped in the framework of another UNDP/UNIDO<br />
project in the 80’s. Mr. Leelaratne discussed extensively with the ET the different<br />
implementation problems found and the present status of the execution. He and Mr.<br />
Wimalaratne showed the testing facilities of NERD to the ET, as well as testing equipment in<br />
connection with the project and a demonstration park set up for biomass gasification<br />
technologies.<br />
