Instructions for: The John V. Wehausen Graduate Scholarship<br />

For advanced study in Ship Hydrodynamics <strong>and</strong> Wave Theory<br />

Application Guidelines <strong>and</strong> Procedures:<br />

1. Open to U.S., Canadian <strong>and</strong> International applicants who are members <strong>of</strong> <strong>SNAME</strong>, or another recognized marine society.<br />

2. <strong>Society</strong> membership is required not less than four months prior to the application submission deadline (i.e. October 1 st ).<br />

3. Awards are made for one year <strong>of</strong> study leading to a Master’s Degree in naval architecture/marine engineering/ocean engineering.<br />

4. Applicants must not receive their Master Degree prior to April 15 th <strong>of</strong> the academic year for which the scholarship applies.<br />

5. A graduate scholarship for NA/ME/OE will be awarded to an individual only once.<br />

6. An application may be obtained by downloading from the <strong>SNAME</strong> web site.<br />

7. Application <strong>and</strong> all required supporting in<strong>form</strong>ation, except for letters <strong>of</strong> reference, are to be submitted electronically.<br />

8. The application must be received prior to February 1 st with all supporting data by February 15 th for Scholarships Committee review.<br />

9. Recipient selection will be in March/April based upon Scholarships Committee recommendations <strong>and</strong> Executive Committee approval.<br />

10. Scholarship funds may be used for student tuition, textbooks <strong>and</strong> academic fees, or other academically related expenses in pursuit <strong>of</strong><br />

study or research.<br />

11. Special circumstances will be considered in situations where strict compliance with requirements is not possible.<br />

Key Criteria:<br />

1) U.S. <strong>and</strong> Canadian applicants may study in the U.S., Canada, or abroad in approved institutions.<br />

2) International applicants must study in U.S. or Canadian institutions.<br />

3) Evidence <strong>of</strong> superior academic achievement <strong>and</strong> motivation for advanced study <strong>of</strong> ship hydrodynamics <strong>and</strong> wave theory.<br />

Scholarship Value<br />

1) Up to $6,000 for one year <strong>of</strong> full-time study for the named scholarship.<br />
