Distinguished New Practitioner Award<br />

David R. Bright, PharmD, BCACP<br />

The Distinguished New Practitioner Award was established in 2010 to<br />

recognize an individual new practitioner who has demonstrated distinctive<br />

achievements in mentorship, service, <strong>and</strong> commitment to the pr<strong>of</strong>ession<br />

<strong>of</strong> pharmacy.<br />

Generation Rx Award <strong>of</strong> Excellence<br />

Megan E. Thompson, PharmD<br />

The Generation Rx Award <strong>of</strong> Excellence was established in 2011 to recognize<br />

a pharmacist who has demonstrated a commitment to the mission <strong>of</strong><br />

substance abuse education. The award is endowed by the Cardinal Health<br />

Foundation.<br />

A fellow <strong>of</strong> <strong>APhA</strong> is a member <strong>of</strong> either the <strong>APhA</strong>–APPM or <strong>APhA</strong>–APRS,<br />

with a minimum <strong>of</strong> 10 years <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional experience <strong>and</strong> achievements<br />

in pr<strong>of</strong>essional practice. An <strong>APhA</strong> fellow also has rendered outst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />

service to the pr<strong>of</strong>ession through activities in <strong>APhA</strong> <strong>and</strong> in other organizations.<br />

Examples <strong>of</strong> service to organizations may include having held an<br />

elected or appointed <strong>of</strong>fice, service on a committee, expert panel, or review<br />

board, or other relevant activities. The selection <strong>of</strong> members as <strong>APhA</strong> fellows<br />

is made by their respective academy.<br />

<strong>APhA</strong>–APPM practitioner <strong>awards</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>honors</strong><br />

Daniel B. Smith Practice Excellence Award<br />

Steven T. Simenson, BSPharm, F<strong>APhA</strong>, FACA<br />

The Daniel B. Smith Award, established in 1964 to honor the first president<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>APhA</strong>, recognized outst<strong>and</strong>ing performance <strong>and</strong> achievements <strong>of</strong><br />

a community practitioner who had distinguished himself or herself <strong>and</strong><br />

the pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> pharmacy in the recipient’s community <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

practice setting. The award was merged with the <strong>APhA</strong> Practice Excellence<br />

Award in 1994 to recognize outst<strong>and</strong>ing performance <strong>and</strong> achievements<br />

<strong>of</strong> a practitioner in any practice setting. Endowed by Bristol-Myers Squibb<br />

Company.<br />

<strong>APhA</strong>–APPM Distinguished Achievement Award in Administrative<br />

Practice<br />

This award recognizes the achievements <strong>of</strong> an individual who has made a<br />

significant contribution or sustained contributions to the provision <strong>of</strong> pharmaceutical<br />

care within administrative practice.<br />

<strong>APhA</strong>–APPM Distinguished Achievement Award in<br />

Clinical/Pharmacotherapeutic Practice<br />

Valerie Prince, PharmD, BCPS, F<strong>APhA</strong><br />

This award recognizes the achievements <strong>of</strong> an individual who has made a<br />

significant contribution or sustained contributions to the provision <strong>of</strong> pharmaceutical<br />

care within clinical/pharmacotherapeutic practice.<br />

<strong>APhA</strong>–APPM Distinguished Achievement Award in<br />

Community <strong>and</strong> Ambulatory Practice<br />

Allen Nichol, PharmD<br />

This award recognizes the achievements <strong>of</strong> an individual who has made a<br />

significant contribution or sustained contributions to the provision <strong>of</strong> pharmaceutical<br />

care within community <strong>and</strong> ambulatory practice.<br />

<strong>APhA</strong>–APPM Distinguished Achievement Award<br />

in Hospital <strong>and</strong> Institutional Practice<br />

Stephen F. Eckel, PharmD, MHA, BCPS, F<strong>APhA</strong>, FASHP<br />

This award recognizes the achievements <strong>of</strong> an individual who has made a significant<br />

contribution or sustained contributions to the provision <strong>of</strong> pharmaceutical<br />

care within hospital <strong>and</strong> institutional practice. In <strong>2012</strong>, this award<br />

was supported by the <strong>American</strong> Heart Association.<br />

<strong>APhA</strong>–APPM William H. Briner Distinguished<br />

Achievement Award in Nuclear Pharmacy Practice<br />

Vivian S. Loveless, PharmD, BCNP, F<strong>APhA</strong><br />

This award, named in memory <strong>of</strong> Captain William H. Briner, a pioneer in<br />

the development <strong>of</strong> the nuclear pharmacy practice specialty, recognizes<br />

the achievements <strong>of</strong> an individual who has made a significant contribution<br />

or sustained contributions to the provision <strong>of</strong> pharmaceutical care within<br />

nuclear pharmacy practice.<br />

<strong>APhA</strong>–APPM Distinguished Achievement Award in<br />

Specialized Pharmacy Practice<br />

This award recognizes the achievements <strong>of</strong> an individual who has made a<br />
