This award recognizes eight presenters <strong>of</strong> practice-focused poster presentations<br />

<strong>APhA</strong>–APRS scientific <strong>awards</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>honors</strong><br />
Research Achievement Award in the Pharmaceutical<br />
Sciences<br />
Carole L. Kimberlin, PhD<br />
The Research Achievement Award in the Pharmaceutical Sciences recognizes<br />
outst<strong>and</strong>ing meritorious achievement in any <strong>of</strong> the pharmaceutical<br />
sciences. Contributions to be recognized are in the areas <strong>of</strong> basic pharmaceutical,<br />
clinical, <strong>and</strong> economic, social, <strong>and</strong> administrative sciences, which<br />
develop knowledge <strong>and</strong> integrate the process <strong>of</strong> science into the pr<strong>of</strong>ession<br />
<strong>of</strong> pharmacy. The award rotates each among the three <strong>APhA</strong>-APRS<br />
Sections, <strong>and</strong> in <strong>2012</strong>, the award recognized contributions in the area <strong>of</strong><br />
economic, social, <strong>and</strong> administrative sciences.<br />
Ebert Prize<br />
Jared Baird, PhD; Bernard Van Eerdenbrugh, PhD; <strong>and</strong> Lynne S.<br />
Taylor, PhD, for the presentation “A classification system to assess<br />
the crystallization tendency <strong>of</strong> organic molecules from undercooled<br />
melts”<br />
The Ebert Prize, administered by <strong>APhA</strong>–APRS, was established in 1873.<br />
It recognizes the author(s) <strong>of</strong> the best report <strong>of</strong> original investigation <strong>of</strong> a<br />
medicinal substance published in the <strong>APhA</strong> <strong>Journal</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pharmaceutical Sciences<br />
in the past year. Both the Editorial Advisory Board <strong>of</strong> the journal <strong>and</strong><br />
the <strong>APhA</strong>–APRS Awards Committee participate in the selection process.<br />
Wiederholt Prize<br />
Melinda Elise Kozminski, PharmD, BCACP; Rachelle Busby, PharmD,<br />
BCPS; Melissa Somma McGivney, PharmD, FCCP; Patricia M. Klatt,<br />
PharmD, BCPS; Stephanie R. Hackett, PhD; <strong>and</strong> Joel H. Merenstein, MD,<br />
for the presentation “Pharmacist Integration Into the Medical Home:<br />
Qualitative Analysis.”<br />
This award was established in 1996 as the <strong>APhA</strong> Best Published Paper<br />
Award for Economic, Social, <strong>and</strong> Administrative Sciences. In 2002, it was<br />
renamed the Wiederholt Prize in honor <strong>of</strong> Joseph B. Wiederholt, PhD<br />
(1949–2001), the first recipient <strong>of</strong> the award <strong>and</strong> a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at the University<br />
<strong>of</strong> Wisconsin–Madison. The purpose <strong>of</strong> the award is to recognize the<br />
best paper published in the <strong>Journal</strong> <strong>of</strong> the <strong>American</strong> <strong>Pharmacists</strong> Association<br />
(J<strong>APhA</strong>), describing original investigation in the areas <strong>of</strong> economic,<br />
social, or administrative sciences.<br />
Clinical Research Paper Award<br />
Cameron A. Winfrey, PharmD; Sara Wortman, PharmD; Stacey Frede,<br />
PharmD; Natalie Kunze, PharmD; Wayne F. Conrad, PharmD; <strong>and</strong> Pamela<br />
C. Heaton, PhD, for the presentation “Pharmacist-initiated peripheral<br />
arterial disease screening program in a community pharmacy setting”<br />
The award, established in 2006, is intended to promote <strong>and</strong> encourage<br />
high-quality clinical research or practice based research in the clinical sciences<br />
by recognizing an original research article in this area that has been<br />
published in J<strong>APhA</strong>.<br />
Postgraduate Best Paper Award<br />
<strong>APhA</strong>–APRS Economic, Social <strong>and</strong> Administrative Section—<br />

“Human factors analysis <strong>of</strong> patient safety concerns associated with<br />

Podium: Zainab Shahpurwala, Alicia S. Bouldin, Benjamin F. Banahan,<br />
David J. McCaffrey, <strong>and</strong> Donna West-Strum for the presentation “Pharmacy<br />
quality report cards <strong>and</strong> the consumer: Preferences <strong>and</strong> attitudes”<br />
<strong>APhA</strong>–APRS Clinical Sciences Postgraduate Best Paper Award<br />
—Poster: Crescent Rowell for the presentation “The development <strong>and</strong><br />
psychometric testing <strong>of</strong> a hypertension knowledge instrument in a vulnerable<br />
population”<br />
The award recognizes the author <strong>of</strong> the best contributed paper (podium or<br />
poster session) presented at each <strong>APhA</strong> Annual Meeting by a postgraduate.<br />
Each <strong>APhA</strong>–APRS Section is eligible to identify a recipient for the<br />
Postgraduate Best Paper Award. <strong>APhA</strong>–APRS ESAS may also award the<br />
<strong>APhA</strong>–APRS ESAS Postgraduate Best Paper Podium Award. In addition, up<br />
to two honorable mention recognitions may be presented per section.<br />
<strong>APhA</strong>–ASP <strong>awards</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>honors</strong><br />
Linwood F. Tice Friend <strong>of</strong> <strong>APhA</strong> Academy <strong>of</strong> Student<br />
<strong>Pharmacists</strong> (<strong>APhA</strong>–ASP) Award<br />
Joseph L. Fink III<br />
Formerly known as the “<strong>APhA</strong> Friend <strong>of</strong> ASP Award,” this award was established<br />
in 1988 to recognize an individual whose long-term services <strong>and</strong><br />
contributions have benefited <strong>APhA</strong>–ASP, <strong>and</strong> thereby student pharmacists<br />
in general. The award was renamed in 1994 to honor Philadelphia College<br />
<strong>of</strong> Pharmacy, University <strong>of</strong> the Sciences in Philadelphia Dean Emeritus<br />
<strong>and</strong> <strong>APhA</strong> Past President Dr. Linwood F. Tice who, in his capacity as Chair<br />
<strong>of</strong> the <strong>APhA</strong> Committee on Student Branches in 1952–1955, was instrumental<br />
in the formation <strong>of</strong> the <strong>APhA</strong> organizational unit that evolved into<br />
<strong>APhA</strong>–ASP.<br />
<strong>APhA</strong>–ASP Outst<strong>and</strong>ing Chapter Advisor Award<br />
Gary E. DeL<strong>and</strong>er, PhD<br />
The <strong>APhA</strong>–ASP Outst<strong>and</strong>ing Chapter Advisor Award was established in<br />
1988 to recognize advisors <strong>of</strong> <strong>APhA</strong>–ASP Chapters who have promoted<br />
with distinction the welfare <strong>of</strong> student pharmacists through various pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
activities.<br />
<strong>APhA</strong>–ASP Outst<strong>and</strong>ing Dean Award<br />
Dean Hewitt W. “Ted” Matthews<br />
The <strong>APhA</strong>–ASP Outst<strong>and</strong>ing Dean Award was established to recognize a<br />
school or college <strong>of</strong> pharmacy dean who has made significant contributions<br />
to the <strong>APhA</strong>–ASP Chapter <strong>and</strong> promoted with distinction the welfare <strong>of</strong><br />
student pharmacists through various community service, leadership, <strong>and</strong><br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional activities. The award was established in 2004.<br />
