Hannover Finanz backs Media Concept MBO
Transaction
Hannover Finanz has led an investment in online retailer Media Concept together with BayernLB
Private Equity. The private equity firms have acquired a 63% stake between them.
Real Treuhand informed the investors about the sale of Media Concept. The investors were
attracted by the strong growth of the business, which showed a significant increase in turnover and
profit since its launch in 2002. The private equity backers were also convinced by the expansion
potential of the company.
The investment will be used for an expansion into the Dutch and Spanish markets.
Sebastian Köhler will replace founder and shareholder Dieter Büchl in the management team, while
Andreas Gebauer will remain in his position as CEO.
Debt
The transaction was an all-equity investment. The company has no existing debt structure from former
transactions.
Company
Media Concept was founded in 2002 and is based in Hohenbrunn, Germany. The company is an online
retail specialist for ink cartridges and toner. The products are sold to private and business customers and
distributed through several online shops.
The printer equipment distributor had a turnover of around €80m in 2010. The online business
operates in Germany, Austria, Italy and France.

Claus von Loeper, Frank Löffler, Benjamin Oberwörder and Dr Christina Silberberger managed the
investment for Hannover Finanz Group. Jan Hähnel and Justus Schmidtke represented Bayern LB
Private Equity.
