HitecVision’s exploration<br />

& production team expands<br />

HitecVision <strong>has</strong> appointed Harald Vabø and Svein Arild<br />

Killingland to join the firm’s exploration and production<br />

investment team.<br />

Vabø and Killingland both have experience in the oil & gas<br />

industry. Prior to joining HitecVision, Vabø was CEO at oil<br />

company Wintershall Norge, previously known as Revus Energy.<br />

Killingland also worked for Wintershall Norge, where he was<br />

head of business development, before joining HitecVision.<br />

HitecVision was the primary investor in Revus Energy in<br />

December 2002. <strong>The</strong> company was floated in 2005, giving the<br />

investor a 5x return on investment.<br />

Industry Investment<br />

strengthens team<br />

Finnish <strong>government</strong>-backed Industry Investment <strong>has</strong><br />

appointed Anne Riekki as chief financial officer and Thomas<br />

Ahlström as senior adviser.<br />

As CFO, Riekki will head Industry Investment’s finance,<br />

administration and asset management teams; she replaces<br />

Marko Häikiö, who is away on a year’s study leave. Riekki<br />

joined Industry Investment as investment manager in 2007<br />

and was appointed investment director in 2009.<br />

New senior adviser Ahlström previously worked for Helmi<br />

Capital, an investment consultancy he founded, and for<br />

Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken as country manager for<br />

Finland and CEO of the Helsinki branch.<br />

CalPERS private equity<br />

manager steps down<br />

Leon Shahinian stepped down as head of the private equity<br />

portfolio at CalPERS amid a fraud lawsuit.<br />

On 8 May, Shahinian was put on paid administrative leave<br />

after a lawsuit identified the investment manager.<br />

<strong>The</strong> lawsuit claimed that Alfred Villalobos attempted to bribe<br />

Shahinian, who had accepted an invitation to New York and<br />

was flown in by private jet. Shahinian later recommended<br />

the pension fund to invest in Apollo Global Management.<br />

Chief investment officer Joseph Dear will take over<br />

Shahinian’s duties until a replacement is found.<br />

Hannes Snellman recruits<br />

three to Nordic office<br />

Hannes Snellman <strong>has</strong> recruited Bjorn Kristianson, Mikkel<br />

Baaring Lerche and Nikolaj Bjornholm to its Nordic law office.<br />

Equity capital markets specialist Kristianson <strong>has</strong> been hired<br />

as partner, while Baaring Lerche and Bjornholm will work as<br />

lawyers, specialising in M&A and corporate law and Danish and<br />

international corporate tax respectively.<br />

Baaring Lerche will have particular responsibility for private<br />

equity transactions and Bjornholm will focus on transactionrelated<br />

tax advice.<br />

Phillip Risbjorn, the company’s managing partner in<br />

Copenhagen, said: “We aim to grow to some 50 lawyers,<br />

including 10-12 partners, within three years.”<br />
