full funding <strong>of</strong> the budget. UNR works with<br />

NSHE staff throughout the year to review<br />

budget expenditures and long-term financial<br />

plans. The Regents, through their audit committee,<br />

regularly schedule fiscal audits at UNR (CD<br />

6.6: Schedule <strong>of</strong> Audits). Budget reconciliations<br />

are followed routinely by the Budget and<br />

Finance subcommittee <strong>of</strong> the Regents.<br />

6.B.9 The board is knowledgeable <strong>of</strong> the institution’s<br />

accreditation status and is involved,<br />

as appropriate, in the accrediting<br />

process.<br />

The Board has been apprised <strong>of</strong> the on-going<br />

self-study for accreditation and will meet with<br />

reviewers during the site visit. The final Accreditation<br />

report will likely be reviewed and<br />

discussed during a Regents’ meeting. The Regent's<br />

will make recommendations and will<br />

oversee follow-up.<br />

Standard 6.C — Leadership and<br />

Management<br />

The chief executive <strong>of</strong>ficer provides leadership<br />

through the definition <strong>of</strong> institutional<br />

goals, establishment <strong>of</strong> priorities, and the development<br />

<strong>of</strong> plans. The administration and<br />

staff are organized to support the teaching<br />

and learning environment which results in<br />

the achievement <strong>of</strong> the institution’s mission<br />

and goals.<br />

6.C.1 The chief executive <strong>of</strong>ficer’s full-time<br />

responsibility is to the institution.<br />

As stated in the UNR Bylaws and Board <strong>of</strong> Regents<br />

Handbook, the President is the chief executive<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>. The duties <strong>of</strong><br />

the President are outlined in the Regents Handbook<br />

(RE 6.2: Board <strong>of</strong> Regents Handbook,<br />

Title 1, Chapter 1, Article 7, Section 4) and in<br />

contract statements. The President has a fulltime<br />

employment contract.<br />

6.C.2 The duties, responsibilities, and ethical<br />

conduct requirements <strong>of</strong> the institution’s<br />

administrators are clearly defined and published.<br />

Administrators act in a manner consistent<br />

with them.<br />

As chief executive <strong>of</strong>ficer, the President hires<br />

and defines the jobs for the Executive Vice<br />

President/Provost and other Vice Presidents.<br />

Under President Lilley, there was a reorganization<br />

in the administrative <strong>of</strong>fices that included:<br />

creation <strong>of</strong> an Office <strong>of</strong> Informational Technology<br />

with a new Vice President reporting to the<br />

President, separation <strong>of</strong> the Development Office<br />

from the Office <strong>of</strong> Marketing and Communication,<br />

creation <strong>of</strong> a Vice President for Health Sciences<br />

(Dean <strong>of</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Medicine), conversion<br />

to on-campus legal counsel and creation <strong>of</strong> a<br />

Provost position from the Vice President for<br />

academic affairs position (RD 6.2: Organizational<br />

Charts: UNR). The Executive<br />

VP/Provost position was charged with all internal<br />

affairs including academic affairs, faculty<br />

hiring and contracts, and day-to-day oversight <strong>of</strong><br />

the Deans. The new President, Dr. Glick, has indicated<br />

that he intends to be more involved in<br />

campus affairs and is working with the Provost<br />

to clarify his expectations. Any administrative<br />

changes in this position will be communicated to<br />

the campus community.<br />

The Vice Presidents (VPs) with executive administrative<br />

positions are responsible for assisting<br />

the President in administering the institution.<br />

Their jobs are defined and approved by the<br />

President. The Vice Presidents meet with the<br />

President to clarify and update their roles. Typically,<br />

the VPs have either role statements from<br />

annual evaluations (personnel document and<br />

confidential) or job descriptions from their public<br />

hiring, both <strong>of</strong> which are written (RE 6.4:<br />

Administrative Position Descriptions). PDQs<br />

(position description questionnaires) define the<br />

positions under the VPs and Deans. These are<br />

updated annually and published, although they<br />

are not yet online. It is anticipated that all these<br />

positions will be available online during the next<br />

two years.<br />
