These three drivers transported 7 veterans, 2 carers, 4 grandchildren of a recently deceased veteran and three other friends. Numbers were down this year due to the unfortunate passing of many veterans. Workers Compensation Insurance Don’t expose yourself financially and professionally by skipping Workers Comp Insurance. Workers Compensation Insurance is compulsory in NSW for any taxi operator who allows anyone else to drive for him/her. If cover is not taken out, the operator is liable for large fines and loss of accreditation if detected. An accident can happen at any time and you would be surprised at the number of incidents which occur on a driver’s first shift – so make sure you are covered from the very start. ATIA Conference By Rhonda Chesterton More than 300 delegates from the taxi industry gathered on the Gold Coast for this year’s ATIA Conference aptly names ‘ Quality Thinking, Quality Service’. The keynote address was provided by former Olympic swimmer, Duncan Armstrong who covered a range of topics from social media to the role of taxis in tourism and business, positive public relations and the vehicles of tomorrow. Sessions which were of most interest were the ones on migration trends, the Victorian Taxi Inquiry, unauthorised Apps and international regulatory trends. Exhibitors included Toyota, MT Data, Cabcall, Transguard Insurance, Cabcharge, Rova Media, Tiemans and Verifeye. Conference delegates agreed that this year’s conference was one of the best for a long time. PREMIERPOST 3
