the sewage canal flowing via
CIT Nagar (Nandanam) has
lead to water stagnation.
The free flow of water has
been further hampered as the
width of the canal was reduced
by dumping sand on both its
sides to park machines used in
removing sewage blocks at the
mouth of the canal and to facilitate
the concrete work in
covering the canal.

on Rangarajapuram Main
Road (Kodambakkam), which
was started last year, has
come to a standstill.
The subway when constructed
will link Mambalam
High Road (T. Nagar) and Rangarajapuram

No progress has been made
in the last 6 months. A deep
trench dug during the construction
period is filled with rain
water. There is no sign board
warning the road users. People
are often seen crossing the
railway track dangerously.

Political banners are an eyesore and a hazard

Sir, In spite of ban on posters and banners, vinyl banners
fixed to casuarinas poles are erected on road pavements and
other public places and are usually used in depicting political
figures and other events by party workers.
However these are rarely removed after the event is over.
These are not only an eyesore but also a hazard.
Recently, such a banner installed on Balakrishna Street
Extension (West Mambalam) and one installed on 7 th Avenue
in Ashok Nagar toppled over. Luckily no one was injured in the
incidents. I appeal to the concerned authorities to take strict
measures in regulating the erection of such banners.-N.

Garbage enclosures erected without prior notice
Sir, Chennai Corporation workers have installed garbage
enclosures outside my residence last week without giving any
prior notice to me. My house is under renovation and the
enclosures have been installed in front of the spot where I have
planned to erect the gates for the entrance to my house. I met
and gave a petition to Saidai Sa. Duriasamy (Mayor) a couple
of days back to remove the enclosures.
I further appeal to the concerned authorities to take necessary

Ranganathan Street misused by vendors
Sir, Mambalam Railway Station is one of the busiest among
the suburban stations thanks to the Mambalam/T. Nagar
shopping hub on its eastern side.
Sadly the entrance to this station from Ranganathan Street
(the busiest section) is plagued by roadside eateries and vendors
who dump garbage and other leftovers near the entrance,
causing a health hazard. There is also pungent smell emanating
from the badly maintained public toilet opposite to the
station entrance and this situation is at its worst during rains.
With the festive season around the corner, I request the
officials of Southern Railway and Chennai Corporation to take
necessary steps to clear the encroachments and vendor menace
and also take steps to maintain the toilet.- R. Ramadurai,

Aggravating Tasmac menace
Sir, The Tasmac outlet at the five lights junction at the intersection
of Thambiah Road Extension and Chakrapani Street, West
Mambalam spells peril and apathy to the nearby residents.
Situated in the ground floor of a working women’s hostel at the
very threshold of this prestigious street, the area plagues of
nightmarish traffic and the regular Tasmac customers park their
vehicles haphazardly obstructing the flow of vehicles.
Safety for women does not exist here and children have to cross
this nuisance to reach their schools even as the ‘Drunken Monks’
rule the stretch of the acute platforms for a comfortable sleep
around-the-clock. Encroachments at this junction and all its
corners and the pungent smell of liquor make it difficult for the
pedestrians to walk.
This also causes a great concern to the devotees who regularly
visit the two temples in this street and the worst hit are the senior
citizens. Police patrolling is most imperative and needs to be
intensified during late hours.
I request the authorities to either close down this Tasmac shop
or to shift it to a different location and also to remove the

According to the traffic police,
the incident happened
when the bus driver tried to
overtake a vehicle while exiting
the flyover and did not notice
a SUV coming from the
opposite side.

revealed that the deceased

accident could have occurred
on the night of Sep. 2
According to the police, the
two were on their way back to
Chennai after attending a
friend’s wedding in
Wallajahabad and the bike
they were riding on might have
plunged into the canal after
hitting the sidewall of the bridge
across the canal.
The bodies were handed over
to their families on Tuesday.
Oragadam Police have registered
a case and are investigating.

Dinesh Kumar (28) of
Thoraipakkam was killed on
the spot when he was caught
under the wheels of an MTC
bus on Usman Road (T. Nagar)
at 8 p.m on Sept.4.
According to the police,
Dinesh was knocked down from
his bike after being hit from
behind by the MTC bus and got
caught under its wheels.
The driver of the bus was
arrested. Mambalam Police
are investigating the case.

Crane used to move lorry

carrying granite blocks got stuck in the loosly
filled trench on Arya Gowda Road (West
Mambalam) at its junction with Anushya
Street at 9 p.m on Sept. 2.
A crane was used next day morning to free
the lorry.
Storm water drain desilted

started desilting storm water drains in T. Nagar
neighbourhood to allow free flow of water.

Scrap dumped near transformer
damages EB cables
Heaps of garbage and scrap from building materials are often
dumped near the EB transformer on Pinjala Subramani Street (T.
Nagar) causing frequent damage to the cable leading to current
outages in the area.
A fire which was caused in the main cable last week took a couple of
days to rectify.

Poles erected on pavement to be
interconnected with chains
Pairs of 3-foot-high metal poles 2 feet apart have been erected on the
entire stretch of the pavement of CIT Nagar 1 st Main Road, between
Canal Bank Road and 4 th Main Road.
They will be interconnected with chains to form a corridor for
pedestrians and to deter pavement encroachers and vendors.
