Notation and terminology Notation and terminology (organizer: David Thomson) Roundtable Discussion David Thomson This will be a discussion session about notation and terminology. EURING technical meetings typically involve collaboration between scientists from diverse backgrounds along the spectrum from field biologists to theoretical statisticians. The success of this inter-disciplinary collaboration largely depends on the quality of the communication and comprehension. In an effort to enhance this, we aim to highlight and discuss ambiguities which have arisen in terminology and notation and we aim through discussion to strive towards standards and consensus. Participants were encouraged to report ambiguities which they would like to see discussed. Also views on particular notation and terminology which should or should not be used, were gathered. These contributions will form the basis for an agenda, and through interactive discussion on each topic we will try to work towards standards which will be acceptable to all. 16
