Have you ever tried to lift a couch yourself? Hard,
wasn’t it? Now what about with 2 people? And
4? One person becomes much stronger as others
join because there is a real strength in numbers;
likewise, ABLE BC and its members are much
stronger when other LPs and LRSs come together.
Through steady growth in our membership this
past fiscal year, we have shown government and
other key industry players that our association’s
voice carries the weight of the industry behind it.
Moving forward, we encourage new members to
join our ranks to show that the association has an
increasing percentage of businesses supporting
the voice of our industry.
ABLE’s strength and voice is used for one purpose
- to advocate on your behalf. ABLE communicates
with government and regulatory authorities to do
such things as:
• Increasing the discount for LRSs from 10% to
16%
• Increasing the distance between LRSs to 1 km
and strengthening stand-alone requirements
• Inspection and enforcement program for
government liquor stores developed to ensure
equal monitoring of both public and private
liquor establishments
• Continuing to raise concerns with LCLB over
fines that are too high for first-time offenders
of the “Minors as Agents” program
• Elevating concerns of police presence in and
around LPs and LRSs
• Fighting for a fairer .05 regime that respects
constitutional rights
ABLE is also full of resources for your use and
benefit. The ABLE office is your best resource for
any industry-specific questions you may have.
ABLE follows the industry very closely to help
provide you with all the information you may
need. We use this information to provide our
members with updates on issues and trends as
well as other important information that you may
need to know.
While offering resources and industry updates,
ABLE also has a variety of programs and discounts
to help you save money while operating your
business. Programs include tailored medical and
dental coverage through Johnstone’s Benefits
and access to the Hospitality Insurance Program
(HIP) through Western Financial. The HIP program
includes property insurance, general liability
insurance, and host liquor liability insurance as
well as business interruption and crime coverage.
To help you save money while running your
business, you can also take advantage of discounts
offered to ABLE members. These include discounts
on ID Checking Guides, which can help your
employees spot fake IDs as well as special perks
with Shaw for Business including no contracts, no
cancellation fees and complimentary service calls.
ABLE members also have the option of joining a
Bottle Refund Program from which you receive
18¢ per dozen handling refund back to your LRS.
Joining ABLE will not only benefit you and your
business through programs and resources; it will
also benefit our industry as a whole, especially
during an election year. Pre-election is a time of
great opportunity to influence policy and policy
makers, and ABLE is prepared to defend our
industry’s interests.
