Barbara Rominger retires after 28 years
First-grade teacher Barbara
Rominger, who calculates
that she has taught 540 first
graders in nearly three decades
at Park Tudor, retired from
the classroom in December.
Mrs. Rominger, who says
she has loved teaching first
graders because they are “spontaneous,
enthusiastic and eager
to learn,” started her career at
the American School in Cincinnati,
then spent one year
teaching at both St. Richard’s
School and Indianapolis Public
Schools before joining the
Park Tudor faculty in 1978.
During the first semester of
this school year, she shared the
classroom with her daughterin-law,
Mary Rominger, who
moved from teaching preschool
to first grade to prepare
for Barbara’s departure.
“Teaching with Mary has
been a highlight,” says Barb.
“We both enjoy each other….
I think I have learned equally
as much from her as she has
from me.”
Mrs. Rominger says she
and her husband Harold “felt
fortunate” that their own two
children, Kristen ’84 and Mark
’88, were able to attend Park
Tudor.
She cites the opportunities
for professional development
as an important part of her
career. She took study-travel
trips to both Oaxaca, Mexico
and to Ireland on Park Tudor
Fortnight “mini-sabbatical”
grants, noting that the travel
“helped to broaden my horizons.”
She also says she highly
values her colleagues. “Park
Tudor is made up of the best
group of faculty you could
work with. This is the hardest-working,
most dedicated
group of teachers,” she

Teams sought for Applefest Golf Classic
This year’s Applefest Golf
Classic will take place
just a few strokes away from
the Park Tudor campus at
Meridian Hills Country Club.
The Florida Scramble tournament,
which raises funds for
Park Tudor athletic programs,
will be held Monday, June 4
and is limited to 36 foursomes.
The event begins at 11 a.m.
with registration, followed by
a putting contest from 11 a.m.-
12:30 p.m. The shotgun start is
at 12:30 p.m., with box lunches
provided on the golf carts.
Hors d’oeuvres will be served
from 5:30-6:30 p.m., with an
awards ceremony and dinner,
including student athlete recognition,
at 6:30 p.m.
Participants may register as
a team or individually. Entries
will be given priority in the
order they are received. Full
payment must accompany
your registration form.
