2. Tardiness<br />
event, etc.), he must turn his work into the appropriate teacher on the day of the absence before he leaves<br />
school. It is also the student’s responsibility to get the next day’s assignment from the teacher and have it<br />
completed the following day he is back in class.<br />
h. Making up tests- If a student is absent the day a test is given, they are responsible to take the test on the<br />
day they return to school.<br />
i. <strong>Student</strong>s who miss three consecutive days must bring in a doctor’s note for an excused absence.<br />
j. A student who is absent more than 35 days during the school year will be required to repeat the entire<br />
school year at the same grade level. Secondary School students absent 18-34 days during the school year<br />
may be required to attend summer school or perform additional hours of in school attendance in order<br />
acquire the necessary hours for grade promotion or for awarding of academic credit on the high school<br />
transcript. (The Administration may waive this requirement only if the student has received approval.)<br />
k. Extended vacations during academic times are strongly discouraged. Any absences from family vacations<br />
(including excused absences) will be subject to our absences policies regarding grade deductions.<br />
a. <strong>Student</strong>s should arrive at school by 7:45 a.m. First period begins at 7:50 a.m. If a student arrives at school<br />
after 7:50, the student will be considered tardy. If the tardy is excused, the office will issue an excused tardy<br />
slip. ALL STUDENTS WHO ARRIVE AT SCHOOL AFTER 7:50 MUST REPORT TO THE<br />
OFFICE FOR A TARDY SLIP. <strong>Student</strong>s who disregard this policy will not be allowed into class and<br />
could be subject to discipline.<br />
b. Tardiness will not be tolerated as it interrupts classroom procedures and valuable student training.<br />
secondary <strong>Student</strong>s will receive a detention for every fourth tardy in a nine week period.<br />
c. Excused tardies include personal sickness, family emergency or road emergency.<br />
d. Unexcused tardies include oversleeping, traffic problems, stopping for breakfast or leaving home late.<br />
e. Unexcused tardies will result in a penalty for the student.<br />
i. Secondary- 4 unexcused tardies equals one absence and one detention.<br />
ii. Elementary- 4 unexcused tardies equals one absence.<br />
f. Attendance at school programs is required unless the child is ill or there is a family emergency. A written<br />
excuse signed by the parent must be submitted prior to OR immediately following the scheduled event.<br />
The teacher(s) and/or the Principal will determine if the excuse is acceptable. If the excuse is<br />
unacceptable, the child will receive a reduction in their music grade for that nine-week grading period. A<br />
student who is tardy to a program will not be permitted to participate in the program once it has begun.<br />
3. Attendance/Tardy Policy for 6 th -12 th Grade <strong>Student</strong>s<br />
a. All 9 th -12 th students who arrive to school after 7:50 a.m. must sign in at the Academic Dean’s Office to<br />
receive an admit slip. The Academic Dean will determine if the tardy is excused or unexcused. Supporting<br />
documentation is necessary in order for a tardy to be deemed excused. If a student or parent wishes to<br />
dispute the decision it must be done within three days or the school’s decision will stand without<br />
exception. (See reasons for excused or unexcused absences above).<br />
b. <strong>Student</strong>s who need to leave school early must sign out at the Academic Dean’s Office and permission<br />
