to attend classes until they have been medically diagnosed as no longer carrying the communicable<br />

disease.<br />

b. This policy applies to diseases such as, but not limited to, syphilis, gonorrhea, hepatitis, tuberculosis,<br />

acquired immuno- deficiency syndrome (AIDS), etc. Current medical information published by the<br />

U.S. Centers for Disease Control indicates that the human T-lymphotropic virus type III/<br />

lymphadenopathy-associated virus (HTLV-III/LAV) is believed to be the agent causing the AIDS<br />

syndrome in humans. The policies presented herein also apply to students known to be infected with<br />

HTLV-III/LAV, or testing positive for the presence of antibodies of the AIDS virus.<br />

2. Head Lice: In accordance with a policy adopted in 1978, a student must be free of lice and nits to attend<br />

school in Hillsborough County School District.<br />

a. Your child will be individually checked periodically for head lice. If the student is found to have head<br />

lice, he or she will be isolated in the sick room (office), and the parents will be notified to pick up the<br />

student.<br />

b. The parent must verify treatment, and the student will be checked upon re-entry. No student will be<br />

allowed in school with lice, active or dead.<br />

3. Other Illnesses: Please do not send your child to school if they have had a temperature or diarrhea within the<br />

last twenty-four hours.<br />

4. Medication:<br />

a. Parents will be notified by school personnel in case of injury, illness or temperature of 100.0 or above.<br />

Parents will be asked to pick up the student at school or the school will follow emergency procedures<br />

agreed upon at registration.<br />

b. <strong>Student</strong>s with a rash will be sent home and may return with a note from a doctor stating that the rash<br />

is non-contagious. Contact the school if your child should develop a communicable disease such as<br />

measles, etc. <strong>Student</strong>s should bring a doctor's slip verifying that he or she is well upon returning to<br />

school.<br />

c. A sick room is provided at the school office for ill children waiting to be picked up.<br />

a. Medication will be given at 11:00 a.m. Please adjust your medication schedules accordingly. All<br />

medication must be recorded on the medicine chart.<br />

b. Medicine must be signed in daily and picked up each afternoon. Please leave the medication with the<br />

office.<br />

c. No medication will be given unless the parent signs the medication chart.<br />

d. Medicine must be in its original bottle with the child's name, doctor's name, date prescription was<br />

filled, name of medicine or prescription number and directions for dosage. Absolutely no over the<br />

counter drugs (i.e., Tylenol, Dimetapp, cough drops, Advil, etc.) will be given unless<br />

prescribed by a doctor.<br />

e. Any medication left at SCA for longer than three days will be discarded. A refrigerator is available for<br />

those medications requiring refrigeration.<br />
