Graduation Requirements and Policies<br />

Please see the Academic <strong>Handbook</strong> for specific graduation requirements.<br />

1. Graduation Tracks: Two academic tracks, college preparatory and general, will be offered at SCA. All<br />

students will be required to follow the college prep track unless administrative approval has been granted to<br />

follow a general track, and the student has attempted the college prep track for at least 1 year.<br />

a. * General Track of graduation will not meet Florida Bright Futures Requirements<br />

b. * <strong>Student</strong>s may earn an athletic waiver for personal fitness/HOPE by playing 2 seasons of a varsity or<br />

JV level sport. Otherwise, the students must take the required HOPE course. In order to earn the<br />

waiver, you must see the guidance counselor to complete the appropriate paper work.<br />

c. * All students must carry a math and science class in their course load each year they are in high<br />

school even if their credit requirements are met.<br />

2. Valedictorian/ Salutatorian: The Valedictorian and Salutatorian will be determined at the end of third<br />

quarter. The following criteria will be used:<br />

a. Valedictorian:<br />

b. Salutatorian:<br />

• Enrolled as a Senior at SCA for the entire school year.<br />

• Have the highest overall GPA as determined from courses that offer credits, with the<br />

exception of teacher/office/cafeteria assistants, in grades 8 through the completion of<br />

twelfth grade third quarter.<br />

• Must take at least one honors course during the Senior year or have followed a college<br />

prep track of courses.<br />

• Uphold the polices of SCA and meet all requirements for graduation.<br />

• Enrolled as a Senior at SCA and attending the first grading period of the school year of<br />

graduation.<br />

• Have the second highest overall GPA as determined from courses that offer credits, with<br />

the exception of teacher/office/cafeteria assistants, in grades 8 through the completion of<br />

twelfth grade third quarter.<br />

• Must take at least one honors course during the Senior year or have followed a college<br />

prep track of courses.<br />

• Uphold the polices of SCA and meet all requirements for graduation.<br />

3. Honors Designation at Graduation: <strong>Student</strong>s earning a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher at the<br />

end of the third quarter of the senior year will earn the designation of graduating with ―honors.‖ The total<br />

criteria are as follows:<br />

a. 3.5 cumulative GPA 8 th grade – third quarter of 12 th grade<br />

b. Followed a college prep track of courses<br />
