Congratulations, Class of 2008!<br />

Hundreds of proud friends and family members ga<strong>the</strong>red<br />
to honor <strong>Wilmington</strong> <strong>University</strong> graduates at<br />
<strong>the</strong> winter and spring commencement ceremonies<br />
held in <strong>Wilmington</strong> and in Georgetown. The class of 2008<br />
should be proud to be <strong>the</strong> first class to receive diplomas that<br />
read “<strong>Wilmington</strong> <strong>University</strong>” since <strong>Wilmington</strong> College became<br />
a <strong>University</strong> in September 2007.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> held five commencement ceremonies this<br />
year so that each graduate could be recognized individually.<br />
The winter graduation ceremony held in January saw approximately<br />
1,228 <strong>student</strong>s receive <strong>the</strong>ir diplomas. The next<br />
ceremony, held in Georgetown in <strong>the</strong> spring, had to be pushed<br />
back by two days due to inclement wea<strong>the</strong>r. However, <strong>the</strong> ceremony,<br />
held on May 14, 2008 went very well and saw 215<br />
graduates receive <strong>the</strong>ir undergraduate and graduate degrees.<br />
On May 18, 2008, <strong>the</strong> spring commencement ceremonies in<br />
New Castle were held at <strong>the</strong> Chase Center on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Wilmington</strong><br />
Riverfront, where 943 undergraduate and graduate <strong>student</strong>s<br />
received <strong>the</strong>ir diplomas. Altoge<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>Wilmington</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
welcomed 2,400 <strong>student</strong>s to <strong>the</strong> class of 2008.<br />
Many eager graduates stated how excited <strong>the</strong>y were to be graduating<br />
from a <strong>University</strong>, and how <strong>the</strong>ir experiences at <strong>Wilmington</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> would be something <strong>the</strong>y could never forget.<br />
President Dr. Jack P. Varsalona congratulated <strong>the</strong> class of 2008,<br />
saying, “May you seize this day, and those that are to follow. The<br />
<strong>University</strong> is proud of you, and remember you will always be a<br />
cherished member of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Wilmington</strong> <strong>University</strong> family.”<br />
As a tribute to our graduates, we have devoted <strong>the</strong> following<br />
pages to award winners, graduates, commencement speakers<br />
and more. We hope you enjoy <strong>the</strong> photo gallery, and reading<br />
