Crossing Methods<br />

The mungbean plant flowers in phases with axillary or terminal racemes<br />

containing a cluster of 10 to 20 cleistogamous flowers. Pollination occurs from 9<br />

to 10 pm until midnight (Bose, 1939). Flower shedding is common, averaging<br />

about 60%. Outcrossing averages around 2 to 5% (van Rheenen, 1964; Bhadra and<br />

Shill, 1986), but varies with the cultivar and the season. A crossing technique was<br />
