Course Description:<br />

A survey of classical mythology with readings in translation from various ancient authors as well<br />

as from modern scholarly works. Formerly CLASS 202.<br />

Required Textbook:<br />

Morford, Mark P.O. <strong>and</strong> R.J. Lenardon <strong>and</strong> M. Sham. Classical <strong>Mythology</strong>. (9 th edition, Oxford<br />

University Press, 2011)<br />

Grading <strong>and</strong> Assignments:<br />

On‐line Book Club – 10%<br />

Essay – 20%<br />

Midterm – 30%<br />

Final – 40%<br />

Note: Late assignments will not be accepted. Missed exams will not be rescheduled except for<br />

legitimate reasons. Please refer to the Section 23.5 of the Calendar for what constitutes a<br />

legitimate reason <strong>and</strong> the proper protocol.<br />

A practice mid‐term <strong>and</strong> final will be available on eClass.<br />

On‐line Book Club:<br />

All students are required to self‐enroll in one of seven on‐line book clubs, with a maximum<br />

capacity of 20 participants in each. The purpose of this assignment is to ensure that all students<br />

have first‐h<strong>and</strong> experience engaging with the primary texts <strong>and</strong> discussing them with their peers.<br />

The forum will be on‐line <strong>and</strong> available through eClass. Once you enroll you are limited to that<br />

particular text. Links will be provided for e‐text versions of the books although there are many<br />

different print versions available in the library if you prefer a hardcopy. There will be a write up<br />

of each text available on eClass with questions to get the discussion started. You will be marked<br />

on your participation in the on‐line discussions as well as the content of your dialogue.<br />

Plagiarism:<br />

“No Student shall submit the words, ideas, images or data of another person as the<br />

Cheating:<br />

“No Student shall in the course of an examination, obtain or attempt to obtain<br />

information from another student or other unauthorized source, give or attempt to give<br />

information to another student…”<br />

“No Student shall represent another’s substantial editorial or compositional assistance<br />

on an assignment as the Student’s own work.”<br />

“No Student shall submit in any course or program of study, without the written<br />

approval of the course Instructor, all or a substantial portion of any academic writing,<br />

essay, thesis, research report, project, assignment, presentation or poster for which<br />

credit has previously been obtained by the Student or which has been or is being<br />

submitted by the Student in another course or program of study in the University or<br />
