Remember the first day you began your career in the fire
service? Somewhere in the back of your mind is probably a
great fire service instructor. He or she just may be the person
who introduced you to the greatest job in America. Fire service
instructors are the guardians of knowledge, skills and ability in the
fire service - their knowledge is wrapped up in a long tradition
that has served many generations of firefighters well. As protectors
of that tradition, instructors look to and rely on creativity while
constantly striving to perfect training. In this workshop we will
cover three areas: Legal Issues, Disruptive and Unsafe Behaviors in
the Classroom, and Today’s Adult Learners Generation X, Y and
the Baby Boomers.

A one hour look at signs & symptoms of Critical Incident Stress and
ways to avoid it. Also discussed are how to recognize signs in a
co-worker.

Learn what your department may need in the event of an LODD
or serious injury for their members. This course will present: Basic
Planning, Benefit Overview, and Caring for Survivors.

This session will discuss the functions of Emergency Management
organizations versus Fire Departments functions and operations,
how they can compliment each other through comprehensive
threat analysis/ response capabilities and the process for
requesting assistance from the State of Texas.

public safety. It will review media formats and basic elements
of the news business that fire service public information officers
should know.

Certification Workshop - Waterway 8
Certification Board Representative
Workshop attendance is a requirement for all Certification
Coordinators as continuing education in order to maintain the
department’s participation status within the Certification Program.
Full Coordinators are required to attend a workshop once every
two years, and provisionally certified Coordinators are required to
attend annually.
