should be in possession <strong>of</strong> a Grade 12<br />

certificate with at least two subjects in<br />

the higher grade. English, Physical<br />

Science, Mathematics and Biology are<br />

the recommended subjects.<br />

Candidates should also be<br />

declared psychologically and medically<br />

fit for service as <strong>of</strong>ficers in the<br />

SANDF, be 18 to 22 years <strong>of</strong> age, with<br />

an M-score <strong>of</strong> 14. Candidates with an<br />

M-score <strong>of</strong> 14 and above are considered<br />

for the four-year diploma and<br />

those who score between 12 and 14<br />

are considered for the two-year diploma.<br />

These requirements are in accordance<br />

with prescribed standards<br />

and are on a par with their civilian<br />

counterparts.<br />

The first six months prior to the<br />

commencement <strong>of</strong> nursing studies are<br />

devoted to military training. The<br />

courses include basic military skills,<br />

the basic ambulance course and driving<br />

and maintenance. Further study<br />

opportunities include battlefield<br />

advanced trauma life support<br />

(BATLS) and battlefield advanced<br />

resuscitation techniques and skills<br />
