Why have you chosen to participate in Alandia Cup?
–When we first came to Alandia Cup, we didn’t really know what
to expect, but we found it to be such an enjoyable week that we
have come back every year since 1994. The Alandia Cup age
group is just right, as the players all play with a smile. For many it
provides their first real trip away from home without Mum, so it
helps them to grow up, just as they are moving up to a new school,
too. We also enjoy coming back year after year with a new set of
players, meeting new friends and catching up with some old ones,
too.
What is best with Alandia Cup?
– There are so many great things about Alandia Cup that it’s hard
to pick just one. The pitches and facilities are good, the standard
of play is great and is advancing every year, the organisation is
superb, and it’s wonderful to play against teams from different
countries in such a beautiful location as Åland. But I think the very
best thing of all is that everyone is so friendly and helpful
– we are really made to feel very welcome indeed.
Why have you chosen to participate in Alandia Cup?
–There are many good reasons. Alandia Cup is exclusive as you
can participate in it only ‘once in a lifetime’, as one of the boys
put it. Being an IFK football club we support IFK Mariehamn when
it comes to traditions, culture and language.
What are the best ingredients of Alandia Cup?
–Speaking of football, we get what we come for; nice get togethers
within the team and also with the other teams.
The arrangements are good and the grass fields are nice.
–The most positive thing for me is that IFK Mariehamn have
succeeded in co-operating with competent referees who keep a
high standard. HIFK is planning to make Alandia Cup into an annual
tradition for its 11-year-old players.
Exclusive football tournament for 11-year-old players
9-player teams
Classes for boys and girls
The biggest tournament in Finland with 86 teams in 2008

Welcome to Alandia Cup.
The biggest football tournament in Finland
for 11-year old players
Åland is really into football. Alandia Cup is hosted by the
Alandic football team IFK Mariehamn that plays in the highest
Finnish league. Here we have a genuine interest in football
and a solid experience in arranging tournaments. This is one
of the reasons why Alandia Cup has become one of the most
popular tournaments for 11-year-old players.
Alandia Cup is a highly appreciated tournament in which the
participants have the chance to meet players from many different
countries. More than 1,600 players from altogether 86
teams participated in the 30th jubilee tournament in 2008.
Naturally, the tournament has separate classes for boys and
girls and the matches are played by 9-player teams. The
matches are always played on grass pitches and every team
plays at least six matches.
Alandia Cup is much more than just football. During the
tournament days you can also enjoy sightseeing, visit the
adventure spa at Mariebad’s swimming centre, go bowling,
disco dancing and a lots more. Also, the trip to Åland is a true
experience for every 11-year-old.
We wish you all welcome to enjoy a fun and well-arranged
football tournament on the Åland Islands!
Take a look at our website www.ifkmariehamn.com
We offer tournaments in spring, summer and autumn.
1 Mariebad
Mariebad is a swimming and spa centre where both children
and playful adults can enjoy themselves outdoors at the
beach, or indoors in the popular recreational pool with
waterfalls and swirls. From the tall tower, a 55-metre winding
waterslide runs down into the pool.
· Recreational pool with water canons, stream canal, cave
with waterfall, hydro massage, jacuzzi, whirls etc.
· Walking distance, 500 m, from school accommodation
(package A).
All packages (A, B & C) include free entry to Mariebad during
the tournament! www.mariebad.net
2 Berglunds Tivoli
Berglunds Tivoli is a large mobile fairground and offers fun
experiences and rides. Alandia Cup co-operates with the local
association for mentally handicapped persons that arranges
the tivoli. All packages (A, B & C) include free entry to the
tivoli and one ride ticket! The tivoli is situated next to Mariebad
and Maritime Quarter. www.berglundstivoli.com
3 Bowling
Idrottsgården’s bowling alley has eight laminated lanes with
automatic scoring service. The bowling hall is open from
Monday until Thursday during the tournament. All packages
(A, B & C) include free entry to Bowling Hall during the
tournament!
4 Maritime Quarter
By the shore of Slemmern Bay, just north of the Eastern
Harbour of Mariehamn, lies the Maritime Quarter, a living
marine centre with boat-building activity, a smithy and
facilities for traditional handicrafts, alongside with a museum
and sales of arts and crafts, food and drink. There is a marina
for traditional wooden boats and ships, a 330-metre-long
wharf and most service amenities. The museum contains
exhibitions of ship and boat building from different time
eras and of farm-boats. There is also a museum shop. The
galleass Albanus, the schooner Linden and the well-boat
Jehu were built at the Maritime Quarter, together with the
schooner Nordboen and the yacht Karolina. About twenty
other wooden craft of various kinds have also been built here.
5 Pommern
The 4-mb Pommern in the Western Harbour in Mariehamn
serves as a memory of the great fleet of sailing-ships that
once had the town as their homeport.
Pommern is unique in that she is still in original condition
and is shown as the cargo ship she once was. When you visit
the ship you will also have the chance to learn about the
everyday life onboard the ship in an exhibition depicting
genuine objects, documents, photographs and films.
All packages (A, B & C) include free entry to the museumship
Pommern during the tournament!
in town.
6 Wiklöf Holding Arena (WHA)
WHA is the main arena in Mariehamn and the home
ground of the league team IFK Mariehamn. Alandia Cup’s
opening ceremony and final matches are played here. WHA
is situated centrally in Mariehamn, within walking distance
of the Western and Eastern harbours (approx. 500 m).
7 Backeberg sport ground (BB)
Backeberg is located 1.5 kilometres north of the centre
of Mariehamn and very close to the school where the
participants with package A normally are accommodated
(approx. 250 m). The matches of the A-package teams are
normally played at BB. The grass fields are lined for two
11 player teams (alternatively for four 7 player teams)
and there are two dressing rooms with showers. The sport
ground lies next to the church of St. Mårten.
8 Ytternäs sport ground (YS)
