I & I Results in Sewer Backups, Overflows, and Bypasses Causing Permit Violations i (Cont’d) • The City submitted an executive report to the LDEQ, detailing the $10+ million of planned improvements to the collection system and lift stations that were completed during the 2005 to 2008 fiscal years. • However, the City is still awaiting the LDEQ’s decision regarding the Order and potential penalty.
I&I and Overflow Abatement Proposed Funding Sources • To continue sewer collection system and lift station high priority improvements, funding of approximately $20 -$25 million is required. • Federal funding requests are being proposed for the following projects: ‣ Approx. $3 million for lift stations (LRA/CDBG). ‣ Approx. $6.2 million under the Coastal Wetlands Protection and Restoration Act (Breaux Act) for effluent discharge into the LeBranche Wetlands. ‣ Approx. $5 million under the Section 219 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1992 (WRDA), as amended, for wastewater infrastructure improvements (Project 57). ‣ Replace the existing Chateau Transfer Station 36-inch diameter Price Brothers force main pipe to the Kenner Wastewater Plant.
