please advise them that most classes are filling fast
and waiting lists are already in place for some
classes. Three Prep classes are already full!!
Enrolments are now being accepted for 2013 and
2014 and it would pay to get in early to avoid
disappointment as the lists are already growing
rapidly.

Riverside. (Ladies, please note that the flooring surface is not suitable for high heels, thank you.)
Thinking of and prayers are with the students who had their classroom burn down
at the Upper Primary Campus of Groves Christian College last week. There was fire
and smoke damage to 6 classrooms and a number of student and staff resources,
as well as school equipment, has been lost.
Principal Terrence McCorkell said, “We often teach our students that the temporary
things of earth are passing. In fact I reminded the Year 3 students last week of the song,
"Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in his wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow
strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace". It was one thing to sing this song last
week. It will be another thing to live it this week. In light of this, should the burning of our
classrooms render us unable to achieve our mission of "Educating for Eternity"? Quite the
opposite. It will test our resolve to achieve this mission despite the problems. In fact, the
brightness and attractiveness of eternity with God should stand out brighter against the
blackened remains of the classrooms.”

JUNIOR COLLEGE News
POPcorn Stall
Year 4/5W immensely enjoyed the
Popcorn Day where they sold
popcorn during first break last Friday.
Although the students only raised
$56 which was a little disappointing
they are pleased to be able to share
this amount between their two
charity choices of World Vision and
Maryborough Soup Kitchen. The
students have since reflected as a
class to evaluate where they could
make improvements if they were to
ever have a Popcorn Day again. They
concluded that they would need to
buy much more popping corn since it
was all sold out in about 10 minutes.
They decided they should sell each
bag for $1 instead of only 50 cents.
The main thing is that the students
thoroughly enjoyed the hands‐on
experience.
Multi-Cultural Museum
Both 4/5 classes set up a museum
this week in Mrs Wendt's room
displaying our varying multi‐cultures
that represent where our ancestors
first came before settling in Australia.
Students have researched their
family tree and other interesting
information about their relatives and
displayed on tables and walls to
share this information with their
fellow classmates, parents and
grandparents who are able to visit
the museum. Some students (and
Mrs Wendt) dressed up in traditional
costume and brought in some
traditional food to share.

Yes it's that time of year again when we start collecting
items to put in shoe boxes for Operation Christmas
Child. You can fill up a whole shoe box on your own or
donate items for us to pack into boxes together.

JUST A BIT OF A DRAMA
The Year 8 Drama classes have been rehearsing their small group plays all term,
and last week presented them to the class for assessment. Mrs Wallace was very
impressed with some of the props and costumes, as well as the performances.
Well done everyone!
Year 6/7 Riverside were well represented at this year’s Solar Technology Challenge with 8 boats competing.
Although we didn’t make it to the finals we certainly didn’t disgrace ourselves with times only 1 second off qualifying
final times for some of the boats. Well done to all who participated.
A very big thanks to Mr White, Mr Keilly and Mr MacRae who assisted the kids in building the boats in Term 3.
Without their expertise and patience (with both kids and science teachers) the activity would not
have got off the ground. Thanks should also go to the many parents who took time out of their
busy Saturday to come on down and enjoy the racing.

2011 Fraser Coast’s Got
Talent at Hervey Bay Z‐Pac
Theatre. They performed a
dance routine and competed
against 35 singers, dancers,
instrumentalists and drama
acts.
The girls didn't get a place
but Mrs Desiree McGann is so
proud of their behaviour and
the way they represented
Riverside Christian College.
On Friday the 9 September, 5 willing and enthusiastic
students volunteered to donate blood at the Blood
Bank. Ryan Rach Yr 11 and Yr 12 students Aryah Little,
Ebony Walker, Zac Holt, Megan Blomdale and also Mr
Brian Harvey. These students and teacher had taken
the time to give to the community as the blood bank
levels are currently very low. These special people
have made a huge difference to people who are in
need of blood. Riverside would like to schedule
another donation session next term for more students
to give blood. If you are over the age of 16 and with
parent permission then you are eligible. Donating
blood could help to save or prolong the life of a child,
mother, father or a sibling.

interested.

Woolies Dockets/Pauls Collect-a-Cap/Coles Sporting
Vouchers
Thanks to everyone for collecting their dockets, caps
and vouchers. The Woolies dockets has been extended
to 18 October so keep those dockets coming in. Also,
keep those Pauls Caps coming in - remember you can
drop them off at the IGA in Alice Street (next to the milk
fridge) or at the Riverside office.
The Coles Sporting Vouchers close on 18 October.
School Banking
School Banking is now up to 44 super saving students!
Parents please keep the deposit tokens at home in a
safe place, all tokens need to be handed in to receive
rewards.
Remember school banking is every Thursday.

Congratulations All Round
Burnett Livestock & Realty’s Stephanie Whitaker (and
parent of Riverside) has been named the Queensland
Finalist for the 2011 Rural Press Mike Nixon Award. The
Mike Nixon Award was instituted by Rural Press and the
Australian Livestock and Property Agents Association
(ALPA)
Stephanie is Marketing Coordinator for Burnett
Livestock & Realty who also own and operate
Biggenden Saleyards. She awaits judging at the national
level in Adelaide in October. Burnett Livestock & Realty
were recently awarded the Property Business of the
Year at the 2011 Fraser Coast Business Awards.
Stephanie recently hosted the first Burnett Beef Ball in
Biggenden where 125 guests from rural industry
attended and it was a great night. Stephanie called upon
Riverside student Lucy Kinbacher, to be photographer
for the night.
Stephanie said, “ Lucy did a great job – a professional in
the making.”
Aqua Aerobics and Learn to Swim
Come and have fun whilst keeping fit, doing Aqua
Aerobics on Mondays and Wednesdays,
12.30 to 1.15pm, whilst the kids are at school.
Also, Learn to Swim, 3 students per class, enclosed and
heated pool, Austswim qualified instructors, all ages and

HPV…..a Roaring Success!
On September 10 ‐ 11, 40 Riverside Christian College
students and 8 staff were involved in our second ever
Maryborough Technology Challenge. The HPV (human
powered vehicle) section began at noon on Saturday and
ran for 24 continuous hours until noon on Sunday. The
location was a 1.5 km street circuit around Maryborough
State High School and Central State School. The students
had been training for many months and were eager to
compete in the challenge. There were 110 entries in all
categories. Many schools had spent long hours in preparing their
HPV trikes, and themselves in readiness for the challenge. The
designs, the technology used in building the trikes and the paint
jobs were outstanding! 105 vehicles lined up for the event.
Our student teams were as follows:
Xtreme Speed: (Junior Boys category – Yr 9 & 10) Zacharias
Lawgall, Reece Johnson, Bronte Jeffs, Brady Jackson, Callum
Perrotta‐O’Sullivan, Lucy Kinbacher, Emily Rockemer, Sean
Petersen‐Flaherty, Brooke White and Michael Blowers.
(Came 21st in their division)
Vipers: (Open Boys category – Yr 11 & 12) Brad Butcher, Damon
Roberts, Joseph Dodd, Adam Kenny, Tiffany Peters, Danny
O’Brien, Zac Holt, Tyson Gibbs, Ebony Walker, Aryah Little and
Hamilton Rockemer. (Came 27th in their division)
Super Sonics – (Junior Boys category – Yr 9 & 10) Phillipa
Allanson, Brayden Trigger, Jakob Kruger, Timothy Gibson,
Eli Isdale, Cameron Best, Liam Hart, Matthew McKewin, Ryan
Storrs and Isabella Mielczarek. (Came 14th in their division)
One Step Ahead: (Junior Mixed category – Yr 9 & 10) Peter
Green, Liam Taylor, Nicholas Johannesen, Matthew Lloyd, Shelby
Kenny, Mikaela Dunlea, Tim Carl, Tulahni Little, Jade McGuigan
and Gabriella Rasteiro. (Came 7th in their division) !!!
Thanks go out to all the parents that helped out on the weekend
by giving their time to assist our students. Of special note were
Rebecca Bargenquast and Kathy Blowers (parents) who gave our
ailing and sore competitors massages and medical treatment after
competing and Michelle Kinbacher for her outstanding food tent
(home baking, cooking, coffee, meals, and encouragement to all)
and to others too numerous to mention who were on site for the
majority of the challenge. This support was truly appreciated by
all. After 24 hours of non‐stop competing and many hours of
cheering, fixing, eating and sleeping, the challenge was over.
When the dust had cleared at noon on Sunday, Riverside had
done very well, and although did not win any awards for their
speed, they demonstrated true sportsmanship, enthusiasm,
perseverance and outstanding team spirit. All students are
looking forward to 2012 and even bigger and bet‐

On Tuesday next week the Jazz Band and myself will be
entertaining the Disability Awards Night at the Brolga
Theatre, organised by the Fraser Coast Council. This is a
great coup for us and we are looking forward to playing
at other such events in the future.
Coming up in December 2 & 3 is a performance of
Handel's Messiah ‐ including the great 'Hallelujah
chorus'. I will be in the choir or orchestra ‐ but it would
be great to see as many students and parents being part
of it ‐ it will be something you will treasure together for
many years. I will keep you informed on rehearsal dates
& timings as I know them.
A reminder that choir is still happening on a Friday
lunch ‐ and I am also commencing a choir in Term 4 as
part of the Duke of Edinburgh program on Thursdays
periods 6 & 7. Try to encourage your child to come
along to this please.

vouchers from Coles, Coles Online, BI-LO and Pick'n Pay supermarkets.
Drop the vouchers into the College and at the end of the promotion we can cash
them in for sports gear.
TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO COLLECT FOR US ... GRANDPARENTS, UNCLE, AUNTY, SISTER,
BROTHER, COUSIN, LONG LOST RELATIVES THAT YOU’VE JUST FOUND ... ANYONE!!!!
The more we can collect the more equipment we can purchase for our
students. Collecting vouchers is easy! August 11 thru to October 18.
Points will automatically appear on the Woolworths shopping
docket, which customers then take to their school. When the
program ends on 18 October, schools redeem their Earn &
Learn points against educational resources including library
books, classroom equipment, art & craft materials.
We hope you’ll take part in supporting our College, by encouraging friends and family members to
send in these points so we can redeem them for our students.
Don't forget to collect your Pauls milk caps and deposit them
either at the College Office or at the IGA in Alice Street
(Andy’s) beside the milk refrigerators.
Each cap is worth 10c and will go towards our College
fundraising efforts.

and walk in the Relay 4 Life.
After being cancelled earlier this year due to the wet
weather, a new date and venue was made for this
charity event. Although chilly conditions deterred
some teams the event still proceeded with the same
determination. Thanks to

Ms Smith, Mrs Chapman
and Ms Carl (who hides
behind the camera) for
their participation in this
event as ambassadors for
Riverside.
A number of College students were also seen
attending with other groups including the Girls’ and
Boys’ Brigades.

Staff member, Mr Jason Cudby won the Best & Fairest
Player as well as the Player’s Award for the Fraser Coast
Mariners Senior A Grade Rugby Team recently. He has
also played Representative Rugby Union for Wide Bay in
the Central Qld Competition with his team winning the
competition this year. He was also selected to play for
Central Qld, but sadly the rules have changed this year
and Mr Cudby is not eligible to play for them until he has
been living in Australia for 3 years.
Even more news for Mr and Mrs Cudby
was the arrival of their first child this
week.
Georgia Janice Cudby was born on the
11-09-11 and is doing well.
