Los Angeles Junior Chamber Welcomes Coach Baskerville to its Board of Directors The Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted to make PHS boys’ varsity basketball coach Ernest Baskerville its newest member. The 38-year old Baskerville grew up in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles and was first introduced to the LA Junior Chamber through the LA Watts Games. He is a Case Manager at the Cochran Firm and the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Providence High School in Burbank. Baskerville also served as the Boys Basketball Chair for the 2012 LA Watts Summer Games Steering Committee. “Ernest is charismatic, energetic, committed to success and to helping those around him succeed,” said LA Junior Chamber Board Chair, Traci Torok. “He is a proven leader whose wealth of personal connections helped make the 2012 LA Watts Summer Games a huge success. His talent for building networks of people and motivating others to serve their community will serve the Board of Directors very well.” As a Case Manager for the Cochran Firm, Baskerville is responsible for client relations and manages a team of people charged with providing top notch customer care. He also manages the information flow of each case beginning with initial contact until the case reaches a senior attorney. Baskerville also manages community relations between the firm and community organizations, political contacts, religious groups and area school districts. He holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Social Science from Thomas Edison State College. As a high school basketball coach, Baskerville has led his teams to multiple championships and has earned Coach of the Year honors five different times. “His competitive fire combined with his dedication to community service and civic engagement will make Ernest a tremendous asset to the Board of Directors," said LA Junior Chamber President and CEO Helen Han. “He will make an immediate impact on the LA Junior Chamber and we are looking forward to his contributions as a newly appointed board member.” The girls’ cross country team made it to the playoffs this season. Girls’ Junior Varsity Volleyball Team Makes History The girls’ junior varsity volleyball team had an exceptional season, with a record of 17-1 overall, making them undefeated Liberty League Champions with a record of 12-0. This marks a first for the junior varsity volleyball program The girls were coached by Ms. Karri Kirsch and assisted by Ms. Kimberlee Kirsch. This particular season had a tight-knit group of girls that really bonded together. “Being together as a team and family was what mattered most to them,” continued Kirsch. “I just found that really touching because these girls truly bonded.” Congratulations to the girls’ junior varsity volleyball team for their historic season! “After our last game, which was our best game of the season, I brought the team into the room to talk to them,” recalls Coach Kirsch. “I thought I would find screaming girls who were excited but I was met with silence and I finally figured out they were sad the season was over and that they were not going to see each other every day as a team.” 15 Fall 2012
