<strong>Hypertac</strong> responds to the growing requirements for miniaturization of systems, equipment and components by introducing a new<br />

range of <strong>M12</strong> style <strong>connector</strong>s incorporating a number of advanced features. The new <strong>M12</strong> Series compact size provides an ideal solution<br />

to system designers, at the same time ensuring high performance due to the advantages of the hyperboloid contact technology.<br />

<strong>Hypertac</strong> <strong>M12</strong> Series comprises 3, 4, 5 and 8 way contact positions with over moulded or free assembly options and also straight or<br />

90 degree versions, all meeting the recognized industry standards. By providing a floating female hyperboloid crimp socket within<br />

a robust <strong>connector</strong> insulator and shell, the benefit of this anti-vibration arrangement enables a safe and secure connection in all<br />

types of environments. Additional benefits are realized by the easy handling and rapid contact assembly with a unique sideways clip<br />

insulator design. Insulator assembly within the <strong>connector</strong> is simplified with a simple touch, look and feel system to ensure correct<br />

orientation. An identical, highly compact form factor for each version is a further benefit, providing the highest possible <strong>connector</strong><br />

to <strong>connector</strong> density. For the free assembled right-angle version, an adaptable cable entry termination allows for a change to a<br />

straight version in the field without compromising the IP67 reliability.<br />

Stamped hyperboloid 0.8mm (8way) and 1.0mm (3/4/5way) contacts support wire diameters of 0.03mm² to 0.5mm² (AWG32 to 20)<br />

which are suitable for automatic high speed crimping systems, providing further benefits of process stability and repeatability. In<br />

addition, 1.0mm machined contacts are available for the 3, 4 and 5way versions supporting a wide range of wire termination cross<br />

sections from 0.24mm² to 1.00mm² (AWG24 to AWG18). Cable diameters up to 10mm can be processed. Machined contacts with<br />

smaller termination cross sections are also available on demand.<br />

All D-coded 4-way and A-coded 4, 5, 8way arrangements provide a 360 degree screen termination which, when coupled with the<br />

all-metal shell, grants complete protection and shielding against EMI/EMC. Several panel mounting versions for cable and PCB<br />

termination provide a complete system.<br />

<strong>Hypertac</strong> interconnect <strong>M12</strong> solutions are built upon the unique <strong>Hypertac</strong> Hyperboloid Contact Technology.<br />

The <strong>Hypertac</strong> Hyperboloid contact<br />

The Hyperboloid socket has a number of spring wires, the position of which is defined by a wire carrier. This is fitted to an outer sleeve or shank<br />

that carries the termination of the socket.<br />

The spring wires within the socket are set a small angle to the centre line and are deflected when the mating pin contact enters. Each spring wire<br />

is deflected within its elastic limit and makes a line contact with the pin. A smooth wiping action reduces wear of the plating surfaces of the pin and<br />

socket wires. This construction allows a very tight control of the spring forces and hence the insertion and withdrawal forces.<br />

The <strong>Hypertac</strong> Hyperboloid contact design ensures unrivalled performance in terms of:<br />

Multiple line contacts of low resistance maintained under high levels of shock and vibration<br />

Low insertion forces<br />

Low wear of plating surfaces for long life<br />

Uniform electrical and mechanical characteristics over a high number of mating operations<br />
