Creating a memory The OSU Extension Service strives to find out what the community needs and wants and our partners & volunteers work to make it a reality Tim Delano mentors groups of children as he educates them in all things forestry at Hopkins Demonstration Forest near Oregon City. Tim Delano, a longtime employee of OSU Extension Service, was thrilled to be part of their 100th anniversary on July 25th, 2011. He considers it a privilege to be involved for eight years with Hopkins Demonstration Forest as well. “It’s all about partnership,” Tim explains, “the Extension Service strives to find out what the community needs and wants. Our partners & volunteers work to make it a reality. Did you know the Extension Service was a catalyst for the abundance of Farmers’ Markets in our area? And our Master Gardeners are just a phone call or e-mail away. Anyone with questions requiring quality answers about food sources, gardening, safe preparation practices, as well as environmental questions, can use the Extension Service as an overall resource all year round.” Tim is excited about a new Extension-based program. “Our Sea Grant will focus on water and marine habitat, from the wetlands to the ocean.” Integrating education, sustainability, economic benefits, and community involvement remain the cornerstones of Extension projects.
