Background/Occupation:
By trade I am a public health practitioner but my 1 st job or duty is to parent two wonderful
children, one which graduated last year as part of SPARK’s second graduating class and
the other, is currently in the 3 rd grade. I have served on MES’s PTA and SPARK’s PTO
(Board and various roles on committees) and the SPARK LSC.
Special Skills you will bring to this Board:
As a public health practitioner, I bring research, evaluation and project management
skills to the Board. From my previous term, I also have been able to work with other
members of the PTO despite our differences and seem to make all parents feel
comfortable to approach me about their concerns.
What do you see as the role of the PTO?
The role of the PTO is to enrich student academic and social life at SPARK via
fundraising and providing technical support to Principal, the Administrative staff and the
teachers so that they can focus their time and talents on instructional activities for our
children. This includes working with SPARK parents, community members, the cluster,
district and the Atlanta Public School system to ensure the best possible scenario for an
optimal learning environment.

What did you like about the current PTO's role at SPARK?
The ability to inform parents of the decisions that APS were making that could positively
or negatively affecting SPARK, the children and the community.
What would you like to see improved for next year's PTO?
That the PTO would provide a platform in which there is greater transparency of
information and use its influence to increase SPARK parental involvement and their
ability to work together for the improvement of SPARK.
What committees/roles have you participated in at SPARK?
Roles:
Dine Out Chair, 2010 – 2012
