2007 New Funds Michael Charles Albert Jack Jordan, a member of the Marshall County Community Foundation board, has established an advised scholarship fund in memory of his father, Roland “Rollie” Jordan, who passed away on June 18, 2007. The annual scholarship will be awarded to a Bremen High School senior who plans to attend an accredited college or university. The selection process will be handled by the Bremen Dollars for Scholars committee. Dr. Vance F. Lopp has established an advised endowment fund on behalf of his family. It is his hope that this endowment will be perpetually funded by family members for generations to come. Known for his philanthropic beliefs, Dr. Lopp is giving back to his community and encouraging his family to do likewise. With the approval of the Foundation Board of Directors and under their policy guidelines, Dr. Lopp and his heirs will make recommendations with regard to recipients and amounts to be awarded on an annual basis. The parents of Michael Charles Albert have established a memorial scholarship fund through the Marshall County Community Foundation to honor their son, Michael, who lost a courageous battle with cancer in 1994 at the age of 12. His short time on earth was an inspiration to his family as they witnessed his strength and faith. Michael, a former student at Walkerton Elementary School, was involved in basketball and band. He participated in Walkerton Little League and bowling. He was just learning to play the piano before he died and wanted to play the saxophone someday. His quiet time at home was spent building with his Lego’s and playing Nintendo. Although the fund was originally created in 1994 at 1st Source Bank by Michael’s parents, Kari and Bill Albert, they wanted to find a permanent home for the scholarship and the Foundation was the answer. The annual scholarship will be awarded to a deserving John Glenn High School senior. Carol and John Zeglis, MCCF board vice president, recently established an advised scholarship fund to honor John’s father, Donald D. Zeglis. The scholarship will be awarded each year to a Culver Community High School graduating senior who has attended CCHS for at least one year, demonstrated financial need, is of high moral character and has shown exceptional academic achievement. Each $6,000 scholarship will be awarded over a four-year period in $1,500 increments. Each student must remain in good standing with his/her college or university. Every year Carol Zeglis will select the recipient from three nominees recommended by the Culver Community High School administration. Two scholarships have been created by Marian Munn. The first fund was established in June 2007 to honor the 60th anniversary of Marian’s graduation from Plymouth High School. The second scholarship honors her late husband, Stephen Wayne Munn, and the 60th anniversary of his graduation from Tyner High School. The Agriculture Scholarships Marian Munn Stephen Wayne Munn will be awarded to a Plymouth High School and a John Glenn High School senior, who will pursue a degree in agriculture. Scholarship committees at each school will select the recipient. Marian Munn passed away on Feb. 25, 2008 only a few weeks after completing the scholarships. 12
2007 New Funds A scholarship fund has been established in memory of Zane and Zoie Triplet through the Marshall County Community Foundation (MCCF). As a memorial to the former LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School and LaVille Elementary School students, the annual $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a LaVille senior who has been active in athletics for four years and 4-H for five years. In addition to the prior two qualifications, the scholarship shall be based on need. Dr. J. Kent Guild Longtime friends Will and June Erwin established the Dr. J. Kent Guild Memorial Scholarship Fund with the Marshall County Community Foundation to honor Dr. Guild’s remarkable life. Dr. Guild was a man known for humility and dedication to others. He valued teamwork, first as a star athlete himself, and later as the team doctor at Plymouth High School. The recipient of the scholarship will exemplify those qualities that Guild held most dear by a passion for service, unselfishness, and helpfulness on a daily basis and exemplifying teamwork on and off the field. “He lived a life of constant contribution,” said June Erwin. “He had a real desire to make this a better community.” The fund will provide a scholarship for a senior involved in Plymouth High School athletics who consistently displays a positive mental attitude. The Dr. J. Kent Guild Mental Attitude Award will be presented annually to a Plymouth High School senior with a GPA of a “B” or better who is involved in athletics every year of high school as an athlete or manager, and is a person of good standing with no violations of the PHS Athletic Code of Conduct for the student’s entire high school career. Many area residents, including the Marshall County Jr. Golf Tour, 4-H Buyers Group, Newton Park, LaVille Elementary Market Day and Jog-a-thon, Zane and Zoie Triplet LaVille Junior Football League, and Cornerstone Community Fellowship, have contributed to the scholarship fund since July 2007, originally held in an account at 1st Source Bank in Bremen. With the help of Ken Carbiener at 1st Source Bank, Tony and Sherri Triplet decided to entrust the Marshall County Community Foundation with the scholarship fund in memory of their children. “We wanted to have a permanent home for the scholarship. We wanted a local organization to manage the funds and ensure that our wishes are carried out long into the future” said Tony Triplet. “We felt the Marshall County Community Foundation was the best place for the scholarship” said Sherri Triplett. “There is a need for scholarships at LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School. Our memorial scholarship is only the fourth scholarship fund at the Marshall County Community Foundation to benefit LaVille seniors.” It is their wish that the scholarship fund will help deserving LaVille students well into the future. Established by Elizabeth Knoth who resides in South Carolina. The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual scholarship for an Argos High School senior. Argos Dollars for Scholars will administer the scholarship. Dollars for Scholars 13 This fund was established to provide an annual scholarship for a Bremen High School senior. The Bremen Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Committee will administer the scholarship. This fund was established to provide an annual scholarship for a Bremen High School senior.
