2007 New Funds Matthew J. Morris The criterion for this scholarship was determined by Matthew’s view of life and the beliefs he exemplified. The scholarship will be presented annually to a senior student who meets the following criteria: A John Glenn High School senior attending an institute of higher learning following high school. Completion of a 500 word essay that explains what Integrity, Courage, and Perseverance means to the student and how he/she exemplifies those characteristics in his/her life. A GPA of 3.0 or better. Established by Mary Ellen Franklin upon the recommendation of friends Betty Laramore (previous MCCF board member) and Kay Finley (current MCCF board member). The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual scholarship to a Plymouth High School senior who has been active in student government and student activities. The scholarship recipient shall attend an Indiana accredited college or technical college. Plymouth High School’s scholarship committee will administer the scholarship. The Matthew J. Morris Scholarship Fund was established to provide an annual scholarship for a John Glenn High School senior. Matthew’s parents, Jim and Monica Morris, his sister Kara Morris, and family members and friends created the memorial fund to honor Matthew’s dream of being the best he could be by completing a college education. Matthew passed away on April 1, 2007 following an automobile accident. He was 18 years old and a member of the 2007 Senior Class of John Glenn High School. Matthew was a very courageous young man who was not afraid to try anything and gave everything of himself. He had a golden heart and a sense of integrity that was admired by his peers and adults alike. He was a very intelligent, but humble, young man. He was not one to judge others and viewed everyone as an equal. His perseverance stood out because he was determined to better himself, however, not at the expense of others. Matthew was raised with a strong conviction of values and morals which helped to shape him into a gifted, level headed, spirited young man. An anonymous donor created a scholarship fund to benefit a Triton Jr./Sr. High School student in honor of Russell and Audrey Feldman. The scholarship recipient shall be selected by the Triton Educational Foundation Scholarship Committee in consultation with Russell and Audrey Feldman. The donor established the fund to honor the couple because of their admirable qualities: reliability, genuineness, good hearted nature, hard working, unassuming, and courageous. “I believe Russell and Audrey represent the best kind of people,” said the anonymous donor. Known as a quiet couple, they manage their own farm where they currently grow corn and soybeans. They have two grown daughters and live in southeast Marshall County. Margaret E. Widmar In memory of his grandmother, Margaret Ellen Widmar, Greg Miller, MCCF board member, has created a designated endowment fund that will provide annual support for the Bremen High School Athletic Department. Known throughout the community as one of the “Golden Girls,” Widmar was an avid supporter of Bremen High School. Along with her friends Phyllis Waltz, Doris Snider and Wilma Leman, she could often be found in attendance at school athletic contests, pep sessions, musical and drama performances. 14

The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual scholarship to an Argos senior who meets the following criteria: The student must have attended at least their junior and senior year at Argos High School. The Ralph C. Vonnegut, Jr. Fund was established to provide funding for environmental, educational, or recreational projects directly related to Lake Maxinkuckee, located in Culver, Indiana. Not-for-profit organizations can submit proposals annually during the Community Foundation’s spring grants round. Winning proposals will be chosen by the Community Foundation’s Grants Committee. With an approximate endowment of $400,000, the MCCF estimates an annual distribution of $20,000 each year to one or more applicants. Ralph C. Vonnegut, Jr. grew up in Indianapolis and attended Shortridge High School. As a young man he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and spent his summers at Lake Maxinkuckee. Mr. Vonnegut was a graduate of Wabash College and went on to a career as a farmer and stockbroker. He was the father of four children: Robert Vonnegut (Islamorada, FL), Kristin Vonnegut (Avon, MN), Daniel Vonnegut (Brooklyn, NY), and Eleanor (Nonie) Vonnegut-Gabovitch (Indianapolis, IN), and the grandfather of 12 including Ezra and Eli Vonnegut-Gabovitch. Ralph was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed nature, sailing, kayaking, and was a voracious reader. With a love of Lake Maxinkuckee in his heart, Ralph returned to the lake as a full time resident in 1987. Established by Louise Mason, MCCF board member, and many members of the Marshall County community in memory of student, Nathan E. Collins. The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual scholarship for a Triton Jr./Sr. High School senior attending Purdue University West Lafayette. If no senior is attending Purdue University West Lafayette the scholarship may be awarded to a senior attending IUPU Fort Wayne or Purdue North Central. The Triton Educational Foundation Scholarship Committee will administer the scholarship. 15 Resides in Green or Walnut Townships and has a final high school GPA of at least 3.0. Has financial need as demonstrated by some form of documentation such as the submission of a FAFSA or similar documentation as determined by the scholarship selection committee. Individuals receiving post secondary education through on-line colleges or universities are not eligible. The Argos Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Committee will administer the scholarship. Helen Samuelson created a new fund to support the Swedish Cemetery in Donaldson, Indiana. This designated endowment fund shall help pay for maintenance of the property each year. This is Helen’s second fund in support of cemetery maintenance. Her first fund was the John A. and Mary Newman Family Fund in 2005 to help pay for the maintenance of the Zion Cemetery property in Culver, Indiana.
