3. Fail<strong>in</strong>g to properly acknowledge sources quoted, cited or consulted <strong>in</strong> the preparation of written<br />

work (plagiarism).<br />

4. Us<strong>in</strong>g a textbook or notes dur<strong>in</strong>g an exam<strong>in</strong>ation without permission of the <strong>in</strong>structor.<br />

5. Receiv<strong>in</strong>g or giv<strong>in</strong>g unauthorized help on assignments.<br />

6. Steal<strong>in</strong>g a problem solution from an <strong>in</strong>structor.<br />

7. Tamper<strong>in</strong>g with experimental data to falsify desired results or creat<strong>in</strong>g results for experiments not<br />

done (“dry labb<strong>in</strong>g”).<br />

8. Tamper<strong>in</strong>g with or destroy<strong>in</strong>g the work of others.<br />

9. Submitt<strong>in</strong>g substantial portions of the same academic work for credit or honors more than once<br />

without permission of the present <strong>in</strong>structor.<br />

10. Ly<strong>in</strong>g about these or other academic matters.<br />

11. Falsify<strong>in</strong>g college records, forms or other documents.<br />

12. Access<strong>in</strong>g of unauthorized computer systems or files.<br />

Academic dishonesty <strong>in</strong> a computer assignment will be suspected if an assignment that calls for<br />

<strong>in</strong>dependent work results <strong>in</strong> two or more solutions so similar that one can be converted to another by a<br />

mechanical transformation.<br />

Enforcement<br />

Students who are guilty of academic <strong>in</strong>tegrity violations such as these can expect to be penalized; any<br />

student who know<strong>in</strong>gly assists another student <strong>in</strong> dishonest behavior is equally responsible.<br />

The course <strong>in</strong>structor shall have the authority to deal with <strong>in</strong>stances of academic dishonesty <strong>in</strong> a variety<br />

of ways <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g, but not limited to, the follow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

1. Work may be redone for full or partial credit.<br />

2. Alternate assignments may be given for full or partial credit.<br />

3. Work may not be redone and no credit will be given for that particular assignment.<br />

4. The student may be dropped from the course.<br />

Faculty members are required to report any academic <strong>in</strong>tegrity <strong>in</strong>cident to the Office of Academic<br />

Affairs. A student found violat<strong>in</strong>g academic <strong>in</strong>tegrity standards will be placed on academic <strong>in</strong>tegrity<br />

probation. Follow<strong>in</strong>g two reports aga<strong>in</strong>st a particular student, action will be <strong>in</strong>itiated under provisions<br />

of the judicial code and may lead to dismissal of the student from SNU.<br />

ACADEMIC PROBATION AND INELIGIBILITY<br />

If you are a provisionally admitted freshman or transfer admission, please refer to page 24 & 25<br />

Cont<strong>in</strong>ued enrollment at SNU requires satisfactory progress toward an educational objective, as based<br />

on the follow<strong>in</strong>g two <strong>in</strong>dicators:<br />

The grade-po<strong>in</strong>t-average for the last semester <strong>in</strong> which the student was enrolled.<br />

The cumulative GPA for all college work attempted by the student.<br />

A student is mak<strong>in</strong>g satisfactory progress if the cumulative GPA is at least 2.00 and the previous<br />

semester GPA is at least 1.50 on 12 credit hours.<br />

Students with grades fall<strong>in</strong>g below the required cumulative GPA of 2.00 are placed on probation status,<br />

as are students admitted under the provisional admission guidel<strong>in</strong>es. Students earn<strong>in</strong>g less than a 1.50<br />

GPA <strong>in</strong> any given semester are also placed on probation status even though the cumulative GPA may not
