Presentation of Ijaza (diplomas/licenses) to calligraphers<br />
having completed the courses coordinated by <strong>IRCICA</strong><br />
Sixteen calligraphers from six<br />
countries (Kuwait, Saudi Arabia,<br />
Turkey, UK, UAE, USA) received<br />
diplomas. The Consul Generals of<br />
Algeria, Albania, Egypt, the United<br />
Arab Emirates, Qatar, Sudan, Syria<br />
present that day, the Governor of<br />
Istanbul, the Assistant Secretary<br />
General of OIC, the District Governor<br />
of Güngören (Istanbul), the Governing<br />
Board members, the Advisor to H.H.<br />
the Emir of Dubai Mr. Houaireb<br />
Mheiry, and the Director General of<br />
<strong>IRCICA</strong> presented their diplomas.<br />
Mr. Abdulnasir Mustafa Bashaan Badrani from Saudi Arabia<br />
received a diploma in the thuluth-naskh style from his teacher<br />
the well-known calligrapher Mr. Hasan Çelebi. Born in Syria,<br />
Mr. Badrani studied medicine at the University of Aleppo. He<br />
taught physics and chemistry at the universities of Mecca, Taif<br />
and Jeddah. He lives in Saudi Arabia since 1994.<br />
Mr. Ferhat Kurlu from Turkey received a diploma in the<br />
taliq style from Mr. Hasan Çelebi. Earlier he had received<br />
a diploma in the thuluth-naskh style. Kurlu is the imam of<br />
Meşrutiyet Mosque in Nişantaşı, Istanbul.<br />
Sir Mark Allen from London, UK received an Ijaza from Mr.<br />
Nassar Mansour (Jordan) in the muhaqaq style. Sir Allen was<br />
educated in Arabic and Turkic Languages at Oxford University.<br />
As a member of the British diplomatic service from 1973-2004<br />
he served in Abu Dhabi, Cairo, Belgrade and Amman.<br />

Prof. Nihad Dukhan, faculty member at the Department<br />
of Mechanical Engineering of Detroit Mercy University,<br />
Michigan, received an Ijaza in the thukuth-naskh style from<br />
Hasan Çelebi. In the USA he had learnt calligraphy from the<br />
American calligrapher Muhammed Zakariya.
