COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

ummer is coming soon; I say we need to
be sure we don’t get overheated. I know,
as I get older I can’t stand the heat as I used
to. Drink lots of water, and stay in the shade,
please.
The Chapter, at our next meeting, will be
electing next year’s slate of officers and we
will, in my opinion, have a very good team. I
would like to thank the officers who are
staying again this next year. We will work
together to make it a good year for the
chapter. I plan to help the new Commander in
any way I can to help him get onboard. Please
remember this is one of the most important
meetings of the year. The Chapter needs to
support the new officers, so let them know by
being there for the elections.
We have started to help our most recently
adopted unit in Iraq, the 36 th Combat Aviation
Brigade (CAB). We will be supporting the
Family Readiness Groups (FRG’s) for two of

the units from the 36 th CAB. Those are the
Headquarters & Headquarters Company of
the Brigade and 1-449 Assault Helicopter
Battalion. We expect to help them by sending
“care packages” of personal items needed by
the individual soldiers in Iraq. Elaine and I
will be having our initial meetings with the
Family Readiness Groups of the two units
later this month.
This month and next, Chapter 1919 will be
presenting ROTC Leadership Awards to
Cadets in the 26 high schools and universities
in the area served by our chapter. Patriots
Milton Carr, Raymond Diaz, John Eli, Hal
Huth, Lee Hagan, and myself have been
designated as presenters so far, but, we can
use some more. If you have some connection
with the ROTC program in one of our
supported schools and would like to volunteer
to be a presenter, please call me at 339-8034.
Patriots, the smile on the ROTC Cadet’s face
when you pin that medal on their chest will be
something you will remember for a long time.
This month I want to thank Albert Tapia for
his help with the Coffee Bar this year. Albert
is not a Purple Heart member but is on our
schedule many times a month. He is this
month’s “for the good of the Order person”.
The Coffee Bar still needs help, please call
me if you can spare the time, 339-8034, or
call Raymond, 444-6342. Albert Tapia, a big
thanks and a respectful salute.
