The College
On the auspicious day of Shrikrishna Janmashtami, the 15 th
August, 1938, the enlightened people of Ghatkopar and the
nearby suburbs witnessed the birth of Hindi Vidya Prachar Samiti,
with the objective of the educational needs of the Hindi speaking
community. The Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College came into
existence in 1963. The main aim was to impart higher education,
knowledge and human values to large section of the society .The
college is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year.
In the last fifty years the college has emerged as one of the most
prominent institutions affiliated to the University of Mumbai.
It offers courses from junior college to PhD to more than 9000
students. To further enhance the abilities of the students the
college also conducts add on courses. In the quest for all round
development of the students the college encourages numerous
co-curricular, extra-curricular, cultural, sports, NCC, NSS,
entrepreneurial development cell, and extension activities.

The Department
The Department of Mathematics has been functioning since
inception of the college in 1963. Apart from the classroom
teaching, the department has formed “Maths Club” to motivate
the students for co-curricular activities and to encourage them to
participate in various intercollegiate mathematics events. Weekly
sessions are conducted for different mathematical activities like
brain teaser, riddles., etc. Students are encouraged to read and
discuss general topics in mathematics. The department
celebrates “Maths <strong>Day</strong>” on 22 nd December every year by
arranging Maths Quiz and Poster competitions.
Aims & Objectives of the <strong>Seminar</strong>:
The year 2012 is declared as “<strong>National</strong> Mathematics Year” in the
honour of the famous Indian Mathematician Shrinivas
Ramanujan. We take this opportunity to pay our tribute to the
great mathematician by organizing a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Seminar</strong>.
Many problems in science and technology are analyzed and
solved by applying powerful methods of Mathematics (and
Statistics) in general.
The seminar will help to enrich the knowledge of Mathematics.
Participation:
Faculties of Mathematics and Statistics of colleges/universities in
India and post graduate/research students are invited to
participate/attend the seminar. Participation is in the form of
paper presentation and/or paper circulation on any topic of
Mathematics. We are to publish full paper in the proceedings of
the seminar (with ISBN Number)
Guidelines for submission of papers:
The abstract of paper not more than 500 words, in MS Word
2003 or 2007 with New Times Roman font with font size 12, 1.5
spacing and margin less than 1’’ from all sides should be sent by
email only on or before 30 th November, 2012.
Registration:
a) Registration may be made through post/courier /fax/email
/phone.
b) Registration form is also available on the website of the
college.
c) Last date for registration of outstation participants who
need accommodation is Nov 30, 2012.
d) On the spot registration will also be considered on 14 th Dec,
2012.
e) Participants may send their registration fees by demand
draft in favour of “Principal, R J College, Ghatkopar”
payable at Mumbai.
Registration Fees:
Rs. 1000/- for teachers
Rs. 700/- for students
Accommodation:
Accommodation can be arranged on request from participants.
The confirmed request along with demand draft of Rs. 2000/-
(two days) towards accommodation must reach us by 30 th
November, 2012. The charges will be borne by the participants.
