drinking fountain. If children need to use the restroom or drinking fountain, they must be accompanied by an adult. Siblings are welcome to attend, however they must be supervised by an adult, other than the coach, at all times. Bring quiet games for children to play with. Chasing, running, climbing or throwing objects is not allowed in the hallways or gym. End of season parties are not to be held inside school facilities. Please find an alternate location. Dispose of any trash appropriately and help clean up the gym and hallways before leaving. Tobacco, alcohol and drugs are not permitted on school property. Equipment: Coaches and parents are responsible for ensuring the players have the proper equipment for the sport. Coaches will be issued equipment bags with basketballs, cones, practice jerseys, a ball pump and a first aid kit. Coaches are responsible for all equipment until returned to the Parks and Recreation Office. The Parks and Recreation Department will provide players and coaches with a jersey. Players and coaches must wear the provided jersey for all games. Players are not allowed to make any alterations to their jersey. Jerseys must be tucked in during all games. Non-marking gym shoes are mandatory. Coaches and players must wear appropriate shoes for the program. Flip flops, clogs, boots, etc. are not allowed. All jewelry must be removed prior to participating in practices or games. Taping is not permitted. Players shall not wear rings, earrings, watches, bracelets, necklaces or any hard objects on their person or clothing. (Exception – medical identification bracelets or chains are allowed and must be taped down). It is highly recommended that players keep their fingernails shortened for the season. Players with casts, soft or hard, will not be allowed to participate. Casts padded or not, may cause injury to the player or others. Player Information Sheets (available on the City website): To know your players goals and objectives for the season; have players complete this form. Coaches may create their own questionnaire if they would like. Schedule: All teams must follow the Woodland Park Parks and Recreation practice and game schedule. Every team is scheduled for the same number of practices and games throughout the season. Practices that are cancelled will not be rescheduled. If time allows, and facilities are available, games that were cancelled may be rescheduled. 2 Revised 1/9/2013
Practices: Please have consideration for other teams and leave the gym at your scheduled time. Facility Open/Close: If a team does not plan to use a scheduled practice time, the coach must notify the Parks and Recreation Department no later than 3:00 p.m. on the day of the practice. Game Clock: The game clock will start at scheduled game time and teams will start play with whoever is there. No forfeits. Players: Teams will play 5 on 5 full court. There shall be no minimum number of players required to play a game during the season. Short Players: Teams are allowed to borrow players. However, in order to borrow players from the other team, both coaches must agree. Teams will only be allowed to borrow players from the team they are playing against. Playing Time: Every child shall receive fair playing time. Each child must play in each quarter and no more than 7 minutes more than any other player each game. Baskets: Set at 10 feet. Pre-game Meeting: Referees and Site Supervisors are required to conduct a pre-game with team coaches prior to each game. Items to be discussed are: 1) Number of players each team has for the game. If a team is short, discuss the possibility of borrowing players. 2) Playing time limitations for any players (illness, injury, discipline, etc.). 3) Questions on rules. 4) Sportsmanship. 5) Any other concerns. First Scheduled Game: 15-minutes prior to the first game, the coach must turn in a complete roster to the scorekeeper. The roster needs to include the player’s first name, last name and jersey number. The game clock will start on time; however the game will not start until lineups are documented in the official roster book. Player Check-in: Prior to the each game, coaches are required to notify the scorekeepers which players are absent. Before starting the game and each quarter, coaches need to notify the scorekeepers who will be starting. The officials will not start or resume the game until this process is complete. Substitutions: When a game is in progress, the officials will allow substitutions to enter the game only if they are at the score table before the stoppage of play. Substitutions will need to check in with the score table prior to entering into the game. Be sure the scorekeeper acknowledges the player, and then have the player sit in front of the score table and wait for the officials to call them into the game. 3 Revised 1/9/2013
