A resource assessment can be completed
after institutionalization to identify the amount
the community spouse can protect, and the
amount that must be counted as available to
the institutionalized spouse, and spent down
to gain eligibility.
If the period of institutionalization ends (out of
care for > 30 days) a new assessment will be
needed.
