Over a hundred people
attended the Altrusa Club
of Roswell’s 2009 Style Show,
“Reminiscing: A Black and
White Event,” on May 16 at the
First United Methodist Church.
The annual event featured
33 models – all Altrusans or
friends of the organization
– wearing fashions from 10
local merchants. (Bealls, Bray
Moore, Cato, Hippie Chicks,
Maurice’s, Pampered Lady,
Pennys, Roswell Livestock and
Farm Supply, Rue 21, and Sears)
Models also wore vintage
clothing from 6 decades,
including colonial, the poodle
skirt 50’s, and the Jackie
Kennedy 60’s.
Altrusa, the first national
service organization for women,
was founded in 1917 by Mamie
L. Bass. Organized in 1947, the
Altrusa Club of Roswell has
grown from 16 members to
over 60 from a cross-section
of occupations, business, and
professions. Well-known for its
community service and support
for community organizations,
the Roswell club grants several
scholarships each semester
to students attending ENMU-
Roswell. Additionally, the
organization sponsors the
Roswell Public Library/Friends
of the Library annual book
sale, supports the Assurance
Home, the Roswell Refuge, the
Salvation Army, the Literacy
Council and other literacy
efforts, Chaves County CASA,
and many other Chaves
County agencies and non-profit

City Councilor Judy
