Congratulations to Tom Butler<br />
Two weeks ago I mentioned how well Tom Butler,<br />
Year 9, had done in the Australian Geographic<br />
Competition and that he was in the running for<br />
membership of the Australian team to the National<br />
Geographic World Championship. After another one<br />
hour exam and a phone quiz, I am happy to report<br />
that Tom is part of a three member team which will<br />
compete in the World Championships in St<br />
Petersburg in Russia in late July. Congratulations<br />
Tom.<br />

2. What is the loss of water soluble nutrients<br />

Tokimeki Cup Speech Contest - (Years 9, 10, 11<br />
Japanese learners). People who attended last week’s<br />
Tokimeki Cup meeting - your next meeting will be on<br />
Monday 27 May at lunch 1 in room 032. Please<br />
practice your story reading at home. Sample story<br />
readings will be organized by early week 4A.<br />
Sydney Film Festival (for over 18 years old) 5 June –<br />
16 June. Sydney Film Festival is one of the world's<br />
longest-running film festivals and is a major event on<br />
the NSW cultural calendar. The 12-day festival<br />
screens feature films, documentaries, short films and<br />
animation from around the world in venues across<br />
the city including the State Theatre, Event Cinema<br />
George Street, Dendy Opera Quays, the Hayden<br />
Orpheum Picture Palace in Cremorne and the Art<br />
Gallery of NSW – 5 Japanese films, 18 French films<br />
and 2 Italian films will be screened this year. For<br />

Undergraduate Scholarships - NOW OPEN!! This is a<br />
scholarship offered to foreign students who wish to<br />
undertake undergraduate studies at Japanese<br />
universities for a duration of five years, including one<br />
year of Japanese training. If you were born between<br />
2 April 1992 and 1 April 1997 and hold Australian<br />
citizenship you may be eligible to apply.<br />

Heritage Japanese Course Seminar - Presented by<br />
HSC Japanese Committee Inc., this Seminar will focus<br />
on the HSC Japanese Heritage Language (HL) Course<br />
that was introduced in 2010. The seminar will be run<br />
in Japanese.<br />
