active proponent of the UPC’s Estidama programme
and a true partner in implementing the principles of
sustainability.
For developers, building strong relationships with
regulators such as the UPC helps them to navigate
a consistently changing environment. Meeting
with the development community is more than
a communication exercise, the UPC proactively
engages with developers to evaluate how they
perceive Estidama, and understand the changing
trends in real estate in order to better comprehend
and anticipate the implications of these changes.
To further extend the implementation of Estidama,
the UPC updated developers on its state-of-the-art
Development Review Streamlining Process. This is
an inter-agency mechanism designed and led by the
UPC to inform and direct developers on Emirate-wide
regulations and policies to improve overall integration,
whilst providing the UPC with the necessary data
to make informed decisions on project applications.
The process also provides all external agencies
with the necessary data and ensures a transparent,
consistent system. In addition, an implementation
booklet has been jointly produced to clearly explain
the roles, responsibilities and requirements for both
the Abu Dhabi Municipality and the UPC.
This first Estidama Forum is a clear example of the
UPC’s well-defined and carefully-crafted approach
of having a two-way communication channel with
all stakeholders to present them with Estidama’s
plans, initiatives and programmes, whilst gaining
their feedback and suggestions to be further studied
and incorporated. Stakeholder-engaging activities
are instrumental tools to enable the UPC to gain
genuine insights on how development and facilities
should be orchestrated to achieve Vision 2030
objectives.
E-Villa Configurator: an ‘edutainment’ tool for villa
owners
As part of its commitment to providing information
to the community and concerned parties in an
accessible, user-friendly and interactive manner,
the UPC recently unveiled the ‘E-Villa Configurator’,
a bespoke new awareness tool for villa owners and
developers aiming to comply with Estidama’s One
Pearl Rating System, the mandatory rating for all
private villa developments in the Emirate of Abu
Dhabi.
Configured to operate across multiple platforms
and applications such as the iPad, the internet, and
also on DVD, the E-Villa Configurator encompasses
the six categories of the Estidama One Pearl Rating
