NOTICE OF MEETING<br />
You are invited to attend a <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Meeting</strong> to be held by the Development Services Committee <strong>of</strong><br />
the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Markham</strong> to consider a Zoning By-law Amendment application submitted by<br />
<strong>Sunrise</strong> Montessori School.<br />

BACKGROUND<br />
The subject property is located on the north side <strong>of</strong> Amber Street, west <strong>of</strong> Warden Avenue, south<br />
<strong>of</strong> 14 th Avenue and north <strong>of</strong> Dennison Street. The property is approximately 0.4 hectares (1.0<br />
acre) and contains a single story industrial building with an approximate gross floor area <strong>of</strong> 1,407<br />
square metres (15,140 sq.ft). The subject property is zoned Select Industrial (M) pursuant to Bylaw<br />
108-81, as amended. The Select Industrial (M) zone permits a range <strong>of</strong> uses such as<br />
warehousing, manufacturing, data processing, etc.<br />
PROPOSAL<br />
The owner is requesting an amendment to By-law 108-81, as amended, to permit a private school<br />
and daycare on the property. The Zoning By-law amendment is being requested in order to<br />
facilitate the operation <strong>of</strong> a Montessori School and daycare within the exisitng building on the<br />
property.<br />
PURPOSE AND EFFECT OF THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT<br />
The purpose and effect <strong>of</strong> the proposed amendment is to create a site specific exception in<br />
Zoning By-law 108-81, as amended, to permit a private school and daycare on the subject<br />
property, in addition to the other uses permitted within the Select Industrial (M) zone.<br />
NOTE REGARDING THE APPLICATION<br />
i) If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written<br />
submissions to the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Markham</strong> before the by-law is passed, the person or public body is<br />
not entitled to appeal the decision <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Markham</strong> to the Ontario Municipal Board.<br />
ii) If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written<br />
submission to the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Markham</strong> before the by-law is passed, the person or public body may<br />
not be added as a party to the hearing <strong>of</strong> an appeal before the Ontario Municipal Board unless, in<br />
the opinion <strong>of</strong> the Board, there are reasonable grounds to add a person to public body as a party.<br />

A copy <strong>of</strong> the proposed Official Plan Amendment is available for public viewing at the<br />
Development Services Counter <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Town</strong> Municipal Offices between the hours <strong>of</strong> 8:30 a.m.<br />
and 4:30 p.m.<br />
