AGAIN, AFTER
50 YEARS
Stephen Richard Ashworth has
celebrated fi fty years in De Warren
Lodge No 1302 by serving the Lodge
as Master for the second time.
Having been Initiated in January 1963
he was Installed as Master of the Lodge
in October 1976. He was appointed
Provincial Junior Grand Deacon in 1986
and later promoted to PPJGW.
Earlier this year Jack Pigott, Deputy
PGM was pleased to present W Bro
Ashworth with a jubilee certifi cate.
Stephen, a retired Head Teacher,
was also presented with a number of
paintings and a bottle of whisky by the
Brethren at the festive board.

50 YEARS OF SERVICE GREATLY APPRECIATED
The M E Grand Superintendent,
Companion John K Clayton showed
his obvious delight in leading the
congratulations and good wishes to E
Comp Raymond Howarth, PGSwdB, Past
Deputy Provincial Grand Superintendent,
who recently celebrated 50 years in
Chapter Masonry.
Presenting a detailed resume of E
Comp Howarth’s achievements, the M
E Grand Superintendent in a relaxed
manner, chronicled a host of Masonic
milestones. These included being Exalted,
in December 1962 into the Chapter
of Prosperity No 290, Master of the
Huddersfi eld Lodge No 290 in 1974 and
First Principal of the Chapter of Prosperity
in 1976.
Chapter honours followed; E. Comp
Howarth was appointed Past Provincial
Grand Sojourner in 1983 and promoted
to PPGSN in 1991. Appointed Past Grand
Standard Bearer in Supreme Grand
Chapter in 1993 he became Deputy
Grand Superintendent in Provincial Grand
Chapter in 1995 and he now enjoys the
Grand Rank of PGSwdB.
E Comp Howarth is a retired Chartered
Accountant and has been both Lodge and
Chapter auditor for many years. M E Comp
Clayton acknowledged his efforts during
the Charity Commission inquiry, “Your help
then, was and is, greatly appreciated.”
Various Masonic subjects, covering the
last 50 years were discussed, including
changing attitudes in Craft and Chapter
members to ritual and attendance; the
openness of Masonry, diffi culties with
ritual and the changes in the Chapter over
the last few years, for better or worse.
On a lighter note, the Provincial Grand
Superintendent referred to E Comp
Raymond’s hobbies which include
motoring; travel; a love of the countryside
and coastline; music and a penchant for
good food and fi ne wines.
He took great pleasure in presenting
a jubilee certifi cate before joining some
50 Companions for an excellent festive
board.

UNUSUAL DOUBLE EXALTATION
Richard Payne, First Principal of The
Spa Chapter No 7069 performed a
double Exaltation ceremony for father
and son, Tony and John Wilkinson.
The ceremony was arranged so
that Tony and John were together
for as much as was appropriate.
The occasion was well supported,
with 39 members and seven visitors
attending.
Tony and John are both members
of Forest of Knaresborough Lodge No
7452, Tony being Initiated in January
2010 and John the following month.
