A Note from the Principal’s Desk
One other highlight of the service was the recognition of staff
for years of service. As a means to honour our staff, it was
suggested that I included these words of recognition in our
newsletter this week. All of our staff members work diligently
and tirelessly to enable your child(ren) to embrace learning in
the best possible way, but at times like this, it is good to take a
few moments to reflect on those who have served faithfully for
10, 15, 25 & 30 years.
10 years
Dear Friends,
Students have now been back at school for 8 days and it is
great to see them enthusiastic and joyful in their learning. As I
move around the College, I am met with welcoming smiles and
greetings, and as I visit classrooms, I am thrilled to see them
participating wholeheartedly in engaging learning experiences.
My hope and prayer is that this can continue throughout the
year.
A highlight of this week
was the Commissioning and
Dedication Service. Many
thanks to all SPCC parents
and friends who attended.
It was an inspiring service,
commencing with an audio
visual presentation about
our theme, ‘Raising a
Culture of Honour’, which
was created by some of our
students who had won a prize at the Festival of Crazy Ideas to
support Mrs Belle Holliday-Williams in the production of our
AV presentation for this particular ceremony.

This was followed by the dedication of students and staff, before
the commissioning and dedication of our student leaders. I
encouraged the leaders to remember that leadership is an
opportunity to serve, not an opportunity to promote yourself,
and that leadership requires the ability to translate vision into
reality. A Christian leader leads with integrity and brings hope
to everyone he or she leads and that true leadership means to
receive power from God, and to use it under God’s direction to
serve people in God’s way. They responded to that by reciting
their pledge which outlined their willingness to take up their
leadership positions with humility and a willingness to serve.
Pastor Christine Jones then prayed for all of our student leaders.
Adrian Lamrock came to the College 10
years ago with a wealth of experience and
has significantly impacted students’ lives, first
as a History teacher and more recently, after
retiring from teaching, as a Careers Advisor
and by providing pastoral care for our senior
students.
Adam Scott has, during his 10 years of
service at SPCC, been a committed and
diligent teacher in Middle School and now in
Junior School. He is passionately interested in
the students in his care and nurtures them in a
way that makes every child feel special.
15 years
Andrew Johnston has served selflessly, giving up many hours of
his own time to ensure that all students are given the opportunity
to excel in sport, no matter what their pursuit. He is a classroom
teacher and enthusiastic Director of Sport, and
has been a Head of the PDHPE Faculty. Andrew’s
passion, his determination, his energy and his
heart has made sport what it is in the College,
and has been instrumental in bringing the Sports
Centre into being. Thank you Andrew for serving
the College faithfully for 15 years.
Jenny King has served in many administrative
areas of the College during her 15 years of
service. Because she has a ‘can do’ attitude,
she has the ability to multitask and ensure that
everything gets done, on time. She is such a
joyful and positive person, who always makes
people feel welcome when they visit the
College, and helps people on the phone to
feel that they have been heard. Jenny has been a
blessing to our College for the past 15 years.

It is hard to find words to fully express the gratitude we have for
the incredible dedication and loyalty that Judy Anastopoulos has
given to the IRC and the College at large, where she has served
for the past 25 years. Judy’s professional
skills are exemplary and she has
enjoyed the challenge of embracing new
technologies and working to make them
available to other teaching staff through
the service of the IRC. Judy has also
made an eternal difference to the lives
of our international students and, as well
she inspires our senior English students
to achieve their best. More recently
Judy has pursued the power of making
thinking visible by personally engaging
with international researchers and facilitating their connection to
our college. Even after 25 years Judy demonstrates the power of an
active learner, and we thank you for always being willing and open
to change, allowing God to be the strength of your heart in every
situation.
30 years
Graeme Evans is one of the most
capable, thoughtful, inspiring and
committed teachers and leaders who
has served at the College over the
past thirty years. In my conversations
with students and staff, his name always
produces the same response: gratitude,
respect and admiration. Graeme is a
godly man -- a sincerely genuine person
who embodies all of the values St Philip’s
espouses. In the nearly twenty five of the
thirty years I have worked with him he
has always treated everyone, students, staff, parents around him with
the utmost respect, regardless of the situation. Speaking to students
who have had Graeme as their teacher, I always receive the same
response, that he was their favourite. That is because Graeme always
listens, he works to help solve people’s problems and to make them
feel uniquely special, whether he is their teacher, or leader.
During his time as teacher. Asst Head of JS & Head of Middle School
& including recently his appointment as chairman of the Australian
MYSA, Graeme has been strongly supported & encouraged by his
wife, Jane and we also honour her today for the part she has played.
“Whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me”
Matthew 18:5 This is the epitome of Graeme’s leadership.
“A great teacher is a great artist; his medium is not canvas, but the human
soul.”
So whether it be teaching Year 6, creating experiences such as
Coachwood to help students learn in different settings, singing in the
College choir, inspiring teachers to be the best they can be, creating,
launching and leading the MS, teaching Mathematics, Mr Evans we
want to honour you and thank you for serving the College and all
of the community.
“One hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account
was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove. But the world
may be different because Mr Evans was important in the life of a child or
young person.”
God understood our thirst for knowledge, and our need to be led by
someone wise; He needed a heart of compassion, of encouragement,
and patience; Someone who would accept the challenge regardless
of the opposition; Someone who could see potential and believe in
the best in others... So He made Mr Evans. Thank you Graeme for 30
years of outstanding service at St Philip’s Christian College.

Child Studies
Child Studies has been introduced this year to Year 9 as an
elective and students involved were delighted to welcome
Mrs Megan Elliot with baby Levi and Mrs Andrea Stig (due
to give birth to her first child any day) to their classroom
on Thursday.
Both Megan and Andrea shared wonderful insight on
preparation for parenting, including setting up a nursery.
Levi charmed everyone with his gorgeous smile and his
antics in the bath, when Megan demonstrated the skill of
bathing and changing a baby. Lots of laughter and splashing
involved.
Thank you Andrea, Megan, and baby Levi for allowing us
to share your experiences and provide us with a very
valuable and unique learning experience.

ST PHILIP’S CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS -
YEAR 7 and YEAR 11 ENTRY 2015
The College’s Scholarship Scheme, established in 1992, provides for scholarships covering
a significant reduction of up to 50% on tuition fees. Scholarships are awarded to students
entering Year 7 or Year 11 in 2015 on the basis of results in the C.S.T.P. placement
examination and an interview with the Principal.
YEAR 7 ENTRY 2015 - Scholarships are awarded covering a reduction of up to 50%
on tuition fees from Year 7 to Year 10 inclusive, subject to
continued effort on the part of the student.
YEAR 11 ENTRY 2015 -
EXAMINATIONS -
Scholarships are awarded covering a reduction of up to
50% on tuition fees for the two years of Senior School,
subject to continued effort on the part of the student.
The Australian Council for Educational Research produces
the Cooperative Scholarship Testing Program (C.S.T.P.) for
Year 7 and Year 11 entry.
Year 6 2014 students sit for the C.S.T.P. Level 1 Exam which consists of four tests covering
areas of Written Expression (two tests), Humanities - Comprehension and Interpretation,
and Mathematics.
Year 10 2014 students sit for the C.S.T.P. Level 3 Exam which consists of four tests
covering areas of Written Expression (two tests), Humanities - Comprehension and
Interpretation, Mathematics and Science. Multiple choice and written answers are required.
Exam results will not be known for four to six weeks after the exam date.
Scholarships will be awarded as soon as possible after receipt of results.
SHOULD I APPLY?
Applicants must score in the top 20% to be eligible for a Scholarship. Only a small number of Scholarships are given each year and
this number is determined by the number of applications and the quality of the results. The Scholarship Program is to recognise and
promote excellence in scholarship.

School Banking
at St Philip’s!
The Commonwealth Bank School Banking program is here!
The School Banking program includes an exciting Rewards
Program designed to encourage children to get into the habit
of making regular saving. Every time your child makes a deposit
at school they receive a silver coloured Dollarmites token. The
first token will be received upon the first deposit at school. Once
your child has individually saved 10 tokens they can redeem them
for an exclusive Dollarmites reward item. Students will have lots
of fun saving their tokens for these cool rewards items.
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. The
school receives $5 when children make their first deposit at
school and a commission on every deposit made through the
School Banking program.
Taking part in School Banking is easy.
• If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver
account they can start banking straight away. They just need
to bring their deposit in every week using their Dollarmites
deposit wallet. If your child has misplaced their Dollarmites
deposit book or deposit wallet, they can request a new one
from either the local branch or contact the School Banking
Co-ordinator.
• If your child does not have a Youthsaver account, you can
open one at any Commonwealth Bank branch, no forms to fill
in! Please remember you will need to take in ID for you and
your child (Birth Certificate / Driver’s License). Alternatively,
if you are an existing Commonwealth Bank customer with
access to NetBank you can apply online. Another option is
to download a paper-based application form from commbank.
com.au/schoolbanking. Please note this option may take up to
2 weeks before a Dollarmites wallet and deposit book is sent
to your home address to start banking at school.
2014 UPDATE
Please note that banking is carried out each Monday by parent
volunteers. All students are responsible for handing their bank
books to their classroom teacher on Monday mornings. If for
some reason their book is not handed in, the school banking coordinators
are unable to process a deposit for that week and no
tokens will be awarded. We are unable to make up extra deposits
the following week and can only process one deposit per week.
At the start of a calendar year, all tokens up to a maximum of 9,
which have previously been unredeemed, will be carried over and
can be used to order new rewards. However the commendation
system starts from scratch at the start of a calendar year. For
example:
• Bronze - 10 deposits in a calendar year
• Silver - 20 deposits in a calendar year
• Gold - 30 deposits in a calendar year
• Special Commendation - will be awarded at the end of the
Term Dates 2014
Term 1: 29/1/2014 - 11/4/2014
Term 2: 29/4/2014 - 27/6/2014
Term 3: 21/7/2014 - 19/9/2014
Term 4: 7/10/2014 - 5/12/2014
School finishes at 3.00pm
on Friday 6th December
for all students.

Volunteers Required
The school banking program relies on parent volunteers to
facilitate the banking and distribution of rewards. We currently
have two volunteers but due to the ever increasing numbers of
students banking would really benefit from having another helper.
If you are able to volunteer a small amount of time on a Monday,
please contact Di or Kerrie in the Junior School office.
STAY COOL AT SCHOOL THIS SUMMER
Win a CommBank Marquee for your school and $50 for a
student just by depositing to your CommBank School Banking
account in Term 1.
The school with the highest percentage of active students at
the end of Term 1 will win a marquee. There are 4 marquees to

Maths Tutorials will be starting in Week 3. These are free.
Students are encouraged to bring along their homework
or any area of the course where they need more help.
Day Time Where Especially for:
Monday lunch S20 Senior Students
Wednesday 3-4pm S20 Senior Students
Thursday 3-4pm M3 Middle School students
Students attending the after school tutorials must stay for
the entire hour, and should arrange to be picked up by a
parent.
Students attending the lunchtime tutorial need not stay
for the whole of lunch, but if they choose to do so, they
are permitted to bring along their lunch.
These tutorials are for HSC students to practise their
problem-solving skills and will involve the completion
of past HSC questions and revision. They are held at
lunchtime on Tuesdays in S20. HSC students may also like
to attend the Wednesday afternoon tutorial during the
Year 12 Study Nights.

UNIFORM SHOP NEWS
Welcome Back!!!
The shop has been quite busy with everyone topping up on
uniforms and lots of new enrolments. A big thankyou to Tanya,
Stephanie and the other volunteers who have been helping out.
We are in need of a volunteer for Thursday afternoons (one of
our busiest times). Duties would include unpacking stock, serving,
making phonecalls etc. If you would like to help the school in this
way and can help for a few hours each week (or fortnight) please
speak with Tanya at the shop or email alison.gill@spcc.nsw.edu.
au.
I have received a few emails regarding what is the correct
uniform. There are a few ways to gain answers....1) Get a copy
of the uniform policy form the shop, 2) download one from the
uniform shop section on the website or 3) ask one of the school
executive staff members.
The shop also has photos of acceptable and non-acceptable shoes
for both everyday and for sport. Have a look when it suits you.
Blazers – Blazers are compulsory for all students Year 5 and
above. If you have not ordered your child’s yet, please visit
the shop, try on a sample and place an order with payment.
To guarantee that you will get your in time for term 2 please
organize this by Thursday, 20th February.
Grey socks - there are a few families waiting for long grey
socks. We are expecting them within the next week and will call
you as soon as they arrive.
Art smocks – Avoid permanent marks from paint, glue, textas
etc spoiling the uniform. These art smocks have a high neck, long
sleeves and cover the whole uniform. Made from cotton, they
are comfortable & machine washable. Many JS students have
already purchased one for this year.

Shop” tab and the order form will appear. You will be contacted
for payment.
Second-Hand items: Over 25 bags of items have been
handed in over the past few weeks and 15 of them processed
so far. See the list below and grab a bargain. If you would like
to donate some items, or you would like the shop to sell them
on consignment for you, please bring them in for processing. To
save you time, consignment forms are available on the website
page so you can fill it in (back and front) before visiting the
shop.

What Does it Cost?
The online menu is the
same price as the usual
menu. However, there is a
fee for the online orders to
help pay for the labels and
the website system. So why
not order your next lunch online!
How Does It Work?
Go to www.flexischools.com.au and click
“Register Now” in the Login Box. Then
enter your student’s name, school and
class, and add funds (say $50) into a prepaid
account. You can log into the
website at any time to place orders, up
until 9:15 am on the day of the order. As
purchases are made, the funds are taken
from your pre-paid account. The account
can be topped up again in the same way,
or set to automatically top-up via credit
card when the balance falls below a preset
minimum. Each order is sent
automatically to the kitchen, where an
easy-to-read label is produced with the
student’s name, class and order details. At
lunch time, students can simply pick up
their order without the need for cash.
What if I don’t have a credit card?
If you do not have a credit card, you can still use FlexiSchools. Simply register as show above and when
it asks for your credit card, click the link that says “What if I don’t have a credit card?” and you will
receive the instructions on how to top-up your account without a credit card.
