New Team
Wow, we've got a busy time coming up! Our new youth workers are
settling in and all the groups are starting back up. This term we are as
busy as ever, plus we've some exciting new things going on! Best wishes,
from Ellie, Ed and Immie.
What’s on
With the arrival of our new youth workers, exciting changes are already taking place! For those in years 7
-9, Youth Cell remains on Friday evenings, and now includes a Youth Alpha course with ice cream and
games.
Café-4-T continues to run for youth in years 10-13 where you can chill or have a discussion with one
another. To top it all off, a new Youth Band is starting up on Mondays after school
where we can learn new music and worship God!
Monday: Youth Band 5 - 6:30 pm
Thursday: KIdzClub 6.30 - 7.45pm (school years 3-6)
Friday: Café-4-T 5 - 6:30 pm, Youth Cell 7 - 8:30 pm
Interviewing the youth leaders
How did you become a Christian?
John: My parents took me to church and brought me up as a
Christian, but I then made the decision for myself while at
university. In my last year I lived with a guy called Ed, who invited
me to his tiny Anglican church, which made me start going to
church again.
Emma: When I was 9, my dad died, and obviously that was
devastating. Later that year I went to a holiday club and they talked
about how if you died you went with Jesus to heaven. It made more
sense than my dad’s existence just stopping. They invited those who
wanted to become a Christian to come to the front, and I did.
How did you get into Youth Work?
Emma: I started work with kids when I was about 11, and did lots of
youth work as a student. I then went on to do an internship at
Glenwood Church, Cardiff, where I ended up working for a charity
there for 11 years.
Where do you see the youth at St Marys going in 2 years?
John: We’re passionate about making disciples and making disciple
makers. We don’t care about how the youth look, as long as they are
people following Jesus and bringing others along on the journey. We
feel that community and a serving community are really important,
and that everyone can use their individual gifts.
What is best about youth work?
Emma: Getting to know young people and seeing people do things
they didn’t know they could do.
Brian
As a youth group we have
decided to sponsor a 12 year old
boy named Brian from Uganda
t h r o u g h t h e c h a r i t y
Compassion.
Brian lives with his mother and
grandmother, and does jobs
such as running errands,
teaching his siblings at home
and buying and selling in the
market. For fun he likes playing
football with his friends, reading
and running.
He goes to Sunday school and
regularly participates in the
church choir. We will aim to
raise £25 per month to support
him, so please keep him in your
prayers.
This month, Dan Owen
(member of the youth) had his
legs waxed to raise money to
support Brian, the grand total of
which was an impressive £72!
