That’s partly expected, of course, because change is a constant, but it is rare to witness such a series of momentous events in a span of 12 months. Locally, we saw the approval of landmark redevelopment plans in Old Town and the West End. Residents mourned the death of a paramedic — Alexandria Fire Department’s first line-of-duty death in decades — and rode out a ferocious, unexpected windstorm. We cast ballots in two elections: one to fill former Delegate David Englin’s (D-45) seat in Richmond and the other to select our next city council. We cheered as the Old Town Theater reopened and gave thanks when superstorm Sandy narrowly missed making landfall here. And we were there with you, online and in print, working diligently to keep up with the barrage of changes. Last year, the Times publicly resolved to further enhance our online presence, boost circulation and spark discussion — if not change — with our editorial page. We think we hit the mark. Our social media presence continues to grow, and our website is home to breaking news, in-depth reporting, investigative journalism and sports coverage. Our articles and graphics have been held up at municipal meetings, and our voter guides have shown up at city council and school board debates. We resolve to keep it up in 2013, bringing you all the local news you can’t do without or find anywhere else. After all, this is your Times.
