While many people feel Feadship’s signature design style is a continuous evolution, they
have in fact designed significant new yachts that defined a change of direction. One of
the most important yachts of any era was 62 metre Fortunato. Launched as Cakewalk,
her lines and layout have proven hard to improve upon and if she were launched today,
few people would argue with her timeless appeal.
MASTEr SUITE
uilt in 2000 without compromise, Fortunato has
been maintained without compromise ever
since. Clearly one of the finest Feadships, the
owner spent over US$20m on spectacular
interior design ideas.
Fortunato is one of the most successful
charter yachts but such is the extent of her
annual maintenance programme, that she
appears to be a lightly used private yacht.
Exterior space is simply massive with a double
aspect sun deck that includes a dining area and bar forward, and Jacuzzi / sunbathing,
aft. Both the upper and main decks are equally impressive for dining or entertaining.
Fortunato is renowned for her inventory of sports equipment. With tenders
housed in two forward garages, the lazarette is free to store other equipment and could
even be converted into a beach club bar linking up with the large swimming platform.
At well over 1000GrT Fortunato has all of the internal volume that brings comfort
and space to every deck level.
Of the two saloons, the sky lounge is a cinema equipped with Sensurround chairs
and near full-height, full-width windows. The open plan main saloon includes a dining,
bar and sitting area – a huge 15 metre entertaining area.
Fortunato has a rare seven double cabin layout. The full-beam main deck master
suite comprises of a bedroom, separate study, two separate bathrooms and a central
walk-in wardrobe. On the lower deck are six equal double cabins with ensuite bathrooms.
A lift connects all internal deck levels.
Even by Feadship standards, construction is of the highest quality. Immaculate
cherry panelling, onyx and marble surfaces and a feeling of utter solidity throughout
the entire yacht.
FOrTUNATO AND HEr COMPETITION
If you look at the immediate competition, Fortunato has strong appeal.
Meduse is smaller, older and, while a fine yacht, visually she is from the previous
generation. rasselas has a lower cruising speed, less range and only six cabins. True,
she is newer but has a price premium of over €17m and a slightly retro style to her
exterior. April Fool is a 2006 design but she has only five cabins, again, has a lower
cruising speed and a premium of €11m.
Where Fortunato scores so heavily is with her exterior design. No other yacht of
her era looks this contemporary and indeed many more recent yachts do not have
her elegant curves. The designers have simply made better use of her available
space and the specification is extremely high.
Value at this price will always be subjective but the facts are clear-cut. Fortunato
is arguably the best value Feadship on the market.
Snowbird has little direct competition. She is newer and €4m less than Go,
the SL39 from Feadship, as well as having a much more sophisticated interior.
MAIN SALOON
SNOWBIrD HAS A VErY SIMPLE CLAIM TO MAkE: she is the best quality 39 metre
yacht currently available for sale.
Built in Holland at the highly respected Hakvoort shipyard, naval architecture is
by Azure – responsible for some of the most spectacular yachts of the last decade.
Interior layout is by Cor D. rover – responsible for making the most of mid-size yachts
where space saving is such a critical exercise. This combined expertise has resulted
in an extremely efficient yacht, a point that may not sound exciting but that makes an
enormous amount of operational difference. Features like a stern thruster, economic
engines and a highly stable hull form all contribute to the yacht’s appeal and value.
Snowbird’s surprisingly large shaded sun deck includes a Jacuzzi surrounded by
sunbeds. Her transom door unfolds to create a substantial swimming platform.
The full-beam sky lounge leads out through full-height glazed doors to a dining
terrace with additional built-in seating. On the main deck, furniture has been cleverly
arranged to create the impression of a circular saloon. The full-beam master suite
has a double bathroom and private study. Lower deck guest cabins include four doubles
with marble ensuite bathrooms.
With an exceptionally high specification, build quality is Dutch shipbuilding at its
very best. Teak panelling, leather, parchment and shagreen are just some of an eclectic
collection of materials. Enormous full-width windows in the saloons and master suite
fill the interiors with bright, inspiring natural daylight.
Snowbird is available for both charter and sale. There simply is no finer yacht at
anything like her size.
IZUMI
OUGHT-AFTEr FOr THEIr TIMELESS ELEGANCE, traditional
IzUMI IS THE BEST VALUE PJ120 ON THE MArkET. Designed by Nuvolari and Lenard,
Feadships need careful analysis of their specification. Marion
the sleek, angular exterior has Crystal silver metallic paintwork with black detailing.
Queen has the credentials to be the best of the current fleet on
The aluminium hull and twin MTU engines power through to 30 knots and she
the balance of age, condition, GrT and, of course, price.
has a useful 900 mile range, enabling the owner to fill up at the most advantageous
Looking into the 1982-1992 fleet, Marion Queen is the latest,
rates and hold enough fuel for a long period. The PJ Series really has been thought
largest and has the highest volume but remains under the
through intelligently. After a late 2010 refit, the yacht is in exceptional condition and
500GrT watershed. With only three owners since new, she
has only 850 hours on the engines.
has never chartered and always been kept as a very private
PJ120 astonished the yacht industry upon launch. The design seemed to defy
‘home’, maintained in excellent condition and upgraded in class.
understanding of how much space could be available on a yacht of this size.
A large main saloon opens onto a big aft deck dining terrace. At anchor with the
Izumi has two areas of particular appeal: a private flybridge that can be totally
tenders removed, the skylounge and upper deck create a second entertaining space
sealed off from outside access and an aft deck that includes a cockpit dining area
of well over 20 metres.
and quadruple sunbed facing the extended swimming platform.
Fourteen guests sleep in oak panelled staterooms: a full-beam main deck master
€14M
The contemporary main saloon contrasts light lacewood against exotic ebony with
and on the lower deck, a full-beam VIP suite, two double and two twin cabins.
Two, six metre tenders are carried on the upper deck and a large lazarette contains
all of the sports equipment. With transatlantic range, Marion Queen has the proven
ability to cruise worldwide.
The key factor with these traditional Feadships is the condition and Marion Queen
has been extrememly well maintained.
Competitively priced at €9.9m Izumi is both more refined and considerably less
the clear winner. Available for inspection in Nice.
CHARTER
Feadship’s finest is a
63 metre fusion of
form and function
LADY BRITT
THE FINEST FEADSHIP
FOR CHARTER
Feadship, 2011, 63m / 207ft, 12 guests,
from €445,000 per week
ated as the finest De Vries Feadship yet built, 63 metre Lady Britt
is an unmatched fusion of form and features.
Sleek, graceful and powerful are difficult attributes to combine but Lady Britt is
unquestionably all three. Take the sun deck for example: an air-conditioned, glassenclosed
gymnasium separates the forward Jacuzzi terrace from an aft dining area.
So large is this aft sun deck that there is also space for oversize armchairs and a
huge sunbed with angled cushion supports.
An authentic Finnish sauna faces a side platform that unfolds over the sea – walk
out of the heat and dive into the cool. Or try out the dedicated wellness spa with a
fully-trained Elemis beautician.
For a change of scene, the yacht can anchor in an idyllic bay where the crew will
set up an exclusive and fully-equipped Lady Britt on the beach club.
In the evening, cocktails are mixed in the upper deck saloon before dinner on the
terrace. The lateral 12-person table ensures every guest enjoys the view.
After dinner the outdoor ‘moon-deck’ cinema is so much larger than the usual
plasma screen. On the main deck, the saloon easily converts into another cinema giving
guests the option of where to view films from the kaleidescape library: indoors or
out, or even different films using both screens at the same time.
12 guests sleep in a full-beam main deck master suite with four double and two
twin staterooms on the lower deck. Two of the doubles interconnect to form a fullbeam
VIP with twin bathrooms and a private lounge.
For pure indulgence, take a bath in the master suite with tip-toe controls for the
flat screen television built into the marble wall.
Lady Britt has a two-Michelin-star chef whose talents include everything from
health conscious steam cuisine to his famous 28 flavour ice-cream dream.
Everyone accepts that the crew on any yacht charter can (and often does) make
all of the difference. Lady Britt has a hand-picked team run with calm authority by a
captain determined to create the most exceptional charter yacht.
CHARTER
At 76 metres,
Reborn is obviously
a very large yacht.
But it is her interior
space that is truly
astonishing.
REBORN
Amels, 1999 / 2010, 76m / 249ft, 12 guests
from €570,000 per week
eborn is a giant of a yacht. 76 metres with a 14 metre beam,
she has huge interior volume and massive deck space. In
addition, she is a superbly equipped yacht, featuring every
amenity to entertain charter guests, from a 50 square metre
lower deck beach club and spa, to a cinema and theatre –
and even a medical room.
In the impressive main saloon a huge double-height atrium and gallery results in a
ceiling height of over five metres. A separate dining room is forward on the same deck,
leaving the entire, vast space of the saloon dedicated to entertaining. Emphasising
this open atmosphere are floor-to-ceiling windows along the entire length.
The design throughout has been accented with Oriental touches and exotic
fabrics creating a smart, eclectic style. In the enormous, full-beam master suite, a
chinoiserie silk printed headboard frames a California king sized bed facing 180
degree, full-height windows and a full-beam private terrace. Additional guest cabins
include a double-depth lateral VIP suite on the main deck and six large lower deck
suites, all with handmade Italian leather, raw silk and ensuite marble bathrooms.
The sun deck is like an exclusive beach club towers above the sea. A counter
CHARTER
TALITHA IN GREECE
THIS SUMMEr TALITHA is available for charter in Greece and Turkey. Cruising the Aegean, her plans include spending time around islands such as Santorini, Mykonos and
the Dodecanese, just off the Turkish coast. Your Edmiston charter broker will put together a fascinating itinerary that combines ancient history and contemporary fun. The
greatest of the 1930s clipper-bowed yachts, Talitha is immaculate after her latest refit, from her fan-tail sunbeds and mosaic pool to the veranda dining terrace and cinema.
F krupp kiel rebuilt by Devonport, 1929 / 2008, 80m / 262ft, 12 guests, €315,000 per week
New to our fleet of yachts for charter, 50 metre Mim has been greatly admired for the
amount of space both inside and on deck.
Her Andrew Winch interior is chic minimalist, classic-contemporary style at its
best with huge picture windows providing bright natural light and panoramic views at
every level. The voluminous sky lounge, in particular, seems like the sort of saloon
you would expect on a much larger yacht.
Much of Mim’s design is based on curves with sofas, rugs and full-height glazed
doors all gently curving to create space and eliminate sharp edges.
12 guests sleep in the main deck master (with a very spacious, elegant bathroom),
two VIPs, one triple (double + single), one twin and one single on the upper deck.
Mim has a particularly proactive crew and the yacht is equipped with child-friendly
features throughout. With zero speed stabilizers, she is highly stable at anchor and
has a very large swimming platform.
Mim is available from July – the Cote D’Azur, Corsica, Sardinia and the west coast
LADY BrITT
THE FIT FLEET
reat food and fitness do
not often go together but
these days yacht chefs
have the talent, ingenuity
and ingredients to make a
great meal suitable for
every diet.
Lady Britt’s two-star
Michelin chef will propose dishes from his steam cuisine repertoire and has a
special freezer filled with 10 flavours of low-fat frozen yoghurt. Equally stellar is
Jerome Paul of reborn, who has experience in three-Michelin-starred restaurants
and palaces across the world. This is a chef with a particular passion for low-fat
healthy menus.
And diets do not have to be dull. For dessert how about caramelised mango
with yoghurt sorbet, pineapple tempura or white chocolate panacotta prepared
with low-fat cream and poached red berries?
A diet of fish? The crew (and guests) can ‘catch your own’ and have the
freshest fish on the plate within the hour. The crew of Atmosphere recalls one
You work hard all year – in the office and the gym – and when you go away, you want
to relax. Nowhere is this easier to do than on board a yacht. A highly-trained crew
cater to your every need, in a beautiful setting that provides the utmost privacy for
sunbathing and entertaining. A chef prepares whatever you would like to eat – whenever
you would like to eat it. It is easy to indulge…
However, there is a way to redress the balance. Many of the yachts feature
exceptional gyms and some have qualified trainers as a member of the crew.
From a counter-current Jacuzzi pool on Samar to yoga on the decks of Talitha or
Mariu – the Edmiston fleet is supremely equipped for every charter guests’ fitness
needs. The gym on Hampshire is situated in the centre of a large sundeck, providing
uninterrupted horizons as you work on the Lifecycle. On Lady Christina, guests can
admire views through full-length glass doors with a gym next to the swimming platform.
Lady Britt’s crew includes a fully-trained Elemis therapist to provide guests with spa
treatments in the dedicated spa. There is also an authentic Finnish sauna. On Pegasus,
a hydrotherapy treatment area and massage room are just the thing for soothing
worn out muscles, while onboard Lauren L a dedicated aromatherapy steam room,
hair salon and beauty parlour combine with the enormous gymnasium to create a
comprehensive fitness and relaxation spa.
aquarium for relaxation.
Cassens Werft, 2002/2008, 90m / 296ft, 40 guests, from €695,000 per week
occasion when a fishing boat passed by the yacht carrying a huge red snapper.
They bargained with the fisherman and five minutes later the Owner had it on his
plate as sashimi.
These days, of course, chefs excel in a variety of cuisines. French chef Jean-
Charles Ladreyt on Odessa is a specialist in Asian food, while Stuart Dunseath,
the British chef on board Teleost suggests a healthy starter of lobster salad with
mango and avocado dressing.
The common factor – excellent quality ingredients. As Ladreyt remarks: ‘It is
no longer get a tomato, eat a tomato, but finding one with real taste.’
caramelised mango with yoghurt sorbet, pineapple
tempura or white chocolate panacotta prepared
with low-fat cream and poached red berries?
But healthy cuisine is about much more than simply eating different food
groups. It is about all of the choices we make concerning what we eat. Organic,
local, specialist, vegan, raw… The chefs onboard can cook it all. Dunseath has
seen much more interest from charter clients in healthy or specialist products
such as Wagyu beef. And as long as he knows guests want it – he can prepare it.
